Oh, this is definitely a Mercator Projection issue.

What the fuck are you talking about? Greenland has close to 50,000 permanent residents. Nuuk has a population of 19K plus.

Not fantasy. I think the chances the Danes and locals put up some doomed effort to bloody our nose is serious. We of course would win, but this entire farce is predicated on the idea that in the end, the Europeans will back down and give/sell Greenland to Trump. If that was going to happen, the Europeans wouldn't have walked out of the meeting yesterday talking about fundamental differences. Everything about their demeanor suggests that yesterday's conversation was basically a non-starter. I think they offered to let the US build as many bases as they want and to give Greenland its full "independence" and let them choose future arrangements with the US. I think Vance said "You will give us Greenland. Full stop." And here we are.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think Trump has ever been the President when we’ve lost or been seriously bloodied in a fight. Or least when the American public was paying attention.

I read one of two outcomes to today’s talks and I would appreciate our euro aware surls weighing in: Nobody agrees, let’s have a high level taskforce, Trump backs down as media forgets. It’s war, more talking while the Danes reenforce the island enough so the invasion causes a helicopter crash and the unseemly sight of a SEAL team fighting in the streets with injuries. Candidly, I think the Danes are going to fight, even if it’s a doomed platoon. To them, this is just an intolerable insult after the dying they have done for us in n Afghanistan

HOW MANY TIMES AM I GOING TO HAVE TO SAY THIS: RARE EARTHS AREN'T RARE!!!!!!!!! Lanthanides are extremely common in the earth's crust. While the Chinese do have excellent deposits, particularily in the heavier lanthanides, but the US has no shortage of them. Mountain Pass is a very rich area, as is Bokan Mountain in Alaska. As an aside, you don't mine one lanthanide, you mine them all at the same time. Some of them are valuable, some of them are not, and some of them are toxic. The issue is doing the refining and separation chemistry at a cost that makes them market viable. Right Now, to use a petroleum metaphor, the Chinese are producing rare earths at $10 a barrel. It's just not commercially viable to drill domestically at that price. If the government were to subsidize their production, you can have as much as much you want. If anything, invading Greenland would destroy NATO, is a long term play, and once you decide to produce, you have the exact same problem on production cost in the marketplace that is bedeviling Mountain Pass.
  8. Yup, but it functionally freezes the current Feds make up through the election.
  9. Looks like Tillis is a hard no on any WH fed nom going forward until this is resolved, which means Trump's nominees can't clear committee rn. FWIW. As an aside, the Fed has an opporutunity to do the funniest thing ever and do an emergency 50bps rate increase.
  10. Panthers fans fighting themselves is:
  11. It's so obvious that Moore needs another year of college before he will be NFL ready, but it's awfully hard to turn down the 10-12 million that potentially comes with a top 10 pick. OTOH, the Jets are thristy as fuck for a QB at #2.
  12. Coaches with solid leads not understanding that the clock is their biggest enemy in the second half continues to blow my mind. The packers had 3 sub 90 second game clock drives in the second half, including an 8 play drive on the missed field goal.
  13. It is not. Part of the frustration of Tosh is watching him doggedly stick with a 6 man box until it’s almost too late and finally bringing a safety down to help with the run.
  14. He got a head coaching gig somewhere. That was his last game with the Ducks. Which hopefully means I’ve watched my last game of Oregon refusing to bring another man into the box to stop the run.
  15. Everyone is clowning on Oregon rn, and they should. But that weird ass fumble on the 5 yard line was a byproduct of Oregon having to use their 5th string running back who was a freshman. Cignetti admitted that losing the defensive back on the opening kick fucked up his defenses spacing on Oregon’s second drive. Maybe this culture is sustainable, but I need to see it with 19 year olds to believe.
  16. They are the best team in the country this year, with a core of veteran players who have bought in 100% to the Coach’s redass process, has the Heisman winner, AND has had incredible luck on the turnover front as well. That’s a great recipe for beating the shit out of everyone. I’m not sure this team is the 95 Huskers, 01 Hurricanes, or 05 Texas, but they are as strong a contender as we’ve seen since 2019 LSU.
  17. Este. I’ve seen a couple of NFL level throws out of him tonight. Not sure whether the game is going to stay slow for him at the next level. It’s definitely not slow for Moore rn. This is a masterclass in why arm talent is only important to a point.
  18. They were tied with Indiana half way through the 4th.
  19. In any rational world, that’s Dante Moore’s draft chances, but Marc Davis still draws air.
  20. Oregon is a good team. They are taking them apart. JFC.
  21. That’s was a really weird 3rd down. It’s like the Oregon line thought they were setting up for a screen.
  22. While that’s generally a good plan, Moore throws the best ball in college ball this season. If he can make the read, he can fit it in the window. It’s not quite Aaron Rodgers prime, but there is almost no throw he can’t make.
  23. Oregon putting together a methodical drive here is the best response to the INT-TD. Basically Oregon just punched around Indiana’s defense for 8 minutes.
  24. I'm going to say this very carefully for the hard of hearing in the room: If you believe the officer in Minnesota was within his rights to use deadly force against that woman in the car, then you also believe that the Capitol HIll police should have begun shooting into the crowd on January 6. They were physically attacking police officers in front of their colleagues with poles and clubs. I can not say it more simply or directly.
