I feel the same. I do my best to educate people on Texas Chili but some people are stuck in their ways. Hell I know 3rd generation Texans that put beans in their chili.
Happy Birthday to my one and only home. I don't plan on leaving. Lone Star #1 down already (side of the label says brewed in Ft. Worth). Chili is on the slate for this evening.
Been a fan since I first heard "I Have Not Forgotten You" on The Range in DFW sometime around 2000 or 2001. And she's married to Bruce Robison, who is also excellent.
You never know until you try. Places can surprise you. I've had some damn fine burgers at Tex-Mex places. When I find a place I like I like to sample the whole menu. Kind of like buying an album and listening to the whole thing.
I used to order the chicken fajita at Whataburger as a kid pretty regularly. Then they took it off the menu for 10-15 years or so. During this very dark period in WB history, I would order the fajita often. Success rate was about 50% with many weird looks given to me by their staff and people I was with. Then sometime in the last 5-6 years they brought it back. It's glorious. I wonder if they had a ton of requests for it during their dark period.
I agree that chocolate should be its own category:
1. Nutrageous
2. Mr. Goodbar
3. Snickers
4. Reese's PB cups
5. Peanut M&M's
Non-Chocolate:
1. Orange Starburst
2. Green Jolly Ranchers
3. Nerds
4. Red Hots
5. Skittles
I agree that cream soda is vile. Big Red is meh.
Back to the list...
If I had fuck you money I still would never buy a fancy car (Ferrari, Maserati, etc.). I'd drive a really nice pickup.
I don't hate Tech... I generally root for them unless they're playing the 'Horns.
I just can't get into soccer.
WhatTheBuck touched on it.
I took an Anthropology Dept. class in college at Tx St. called "Magic, Ritual & Religion". It was fucking awesome, and I still have the book. Basically you learned about different tribes and religions throughout history and how most of them use drugs to have religious experiences. What we learned about Christianity was nobody could really figure out when Jesus's birthday actually was so they decided to come up with a day to celebrate it that competed with Paganism. Halloween is the Pagan New Year and they figured 2 months later would compete with it since they were trying to promote a new religion. At least that's the way I remember it being taught.
Almost Famous for sure.
I'm also a big fan of Garden State's soundtrack.
Urban Cowboy is up there for me as well.
Crazy Heart. Won Ryan Bingham an Oscar.
