  1. And, I am not sure the FCC even heavily implied anything, although one can be relatively certain that they would have pushed this. It apparently would have provoked a test case of the new interpretation if CBS had chosen to push back. I think we do know that CBS' kollabo attorneys strongly implied that Colbert shouldn't run it because of the FCC. There's plenty of blame to go around, but CBS doesn't get to pretend this was some neutral application of law.
  2. I have a Chromecast/Google TV that on the home screen shows "hot videos" from the various services and I'm sure some algorithm-driven shit. I rarely ever watch YouTube on the TV and I don't think it's even logged in (I only have a login because Android). Wife uses it on occasion for music video type things and the occasional amateur true crime thing, so nothing that would set the algorithm to deliver Colberr or James Talarico. That video was on the number two spot yesterday, showing 3.1M views in 19 hours. On the one hand, I get the notion that he should be more fiery like Crockett. On the other, I think there's a huge chunk of the electorate, as there was in 2020 that is just sick of the performative shitshow that is Trump. I think that group, which handily forgot about the Trump shitshow in 2024, might welcome the quiet sanity of James.
  3. As a recovering/ed sober alcoholic, I agree with the characterization as a disease. But accepting treatment for the disease remains a choice. It is a choice made difficult by the nature of the disease itself, but it is still a choice.
  4. Considering she's very likely an addict, you did her a solid in terms of consequences. May not do her any immediate good, but every little bit helps.
  5. Goddammit. Link in edit comment.
  6. Apologies for the source, but I'm sure it accurately depicts his right wing bona fides. Dallas ExpressLittle Elm Resident Faces Doxxing Over Video, Stirring H-...A Little Elm resident’s video about a local festival sparks discussions on H-1B visas and neighborhood identity.
  7. I yearn for the days when the Texas GOP were just business lackeys and not christofascists.
  8. And over shit that was predictable and obvious.
  9. I think that's just a generic Islamist rant against western corruption and decadence.
  10. Well, he probably started fucking him or her 10 or more years ago.
  11. According to reliable sources, Paxton has lost TimFaris DunnWilks. He was about to be impeached before they gave Goeb a few million. Im not sure he's as well financed, or backed, as he was in the past.
  12. He gives Sam a very gay look . . . and then flat bricks in his mouth.
  13. Diwali. Indians wouldn't celebrate Eid Mubarak. Pakis would. You fucking guy, you.
  14. They were going to do it anyway. That there's some resistance to making a complete performative zoo out of it is some comfort, small beer it may be.
  15. Complete pantsing of the sponsor and the bill itself and raised objective questions about the shitty bill. And I'm sure it passed with huge GOP majorities.
  16. Much like first year grades. That's if you want to get into the higher six figures, without being a successful plaintiff's lawyer and/or grinding your ass off.
  17. Well, Colbert doesn't masquerade as news, but has a newsy component. Whereas Fox is the opposite and CNN less so. That's the main distinction, which places Colbert further out of the "equal time news exception" intention or ambit. So, if you're going to make it that broad, then you have trouble. And if you're going to grant or deny "favorable treatment" on the basis of misinformation, quit fucking around and ban misinformation. That, unfortunately, probably has 1st Amendment problems.
  18. I should add that I like Colbert a lot and don't think he's toxic. But it's really hard to differentiate his infotainment from Fox infotainment on a principled basis other than misinformation.
  19. I'm not sure I buy this. A lot of transactional work, from assembly of deal docs to due diligence sure looks rote and like something AI could do, with careful review by probably more senior attorneys. But the devil is in the details, and sometimes the littlest thing can make all the difference, and it would only be caught by a sharp-eyed associate doing the rote stuff (and billing the shit out of it). Now, clients might demand the use of AI in lieu of massive associate bills for that work and assume the risk, accordingly. But, I think most big-time corporate/transactional stuff bills as a percentage of the deal, so it may not be the clients' call in a lot of cases.
  20. Right. If it were any other regime or administration doing this, I think I might favor it. I think infotainment is toxic. It's why we have Fox and CNN.
  21. She's told a lot of pretty filthy lies and been busted on them. You had to figure some heads were going to roll. Bovino. Her.
  22. Just think how badly we needed price discovery on shit like this!
