  1. If Purcell means any goddamn thing at all, I don't see how the Save Act can go into effect less than a year prior to elections.
  2. I don't miiiiind, other guys dancin with my giiiiirrrll, That's fiiiine, I know them all pretty well, 🎶
  3. So, that letter seems to make it pretty clear that actual investigative and prosecutorial materials -- the things that would indicate details of actual investigations -- were withheld. See p.2, second complete paragraph.
  4. Just to be clear, I'm not saying anyone on that list is particularly worthy of admiration (Jack Kilby at least), but their contributions greatly overshadow those of the modern techbro, who brought us a bunch of shit of dubious value layered on top of the innovations that were the personal computer and the internet.
  5. Haven't seen it, but Lt. Edmund Exley gets Guy Pearce a lifetime permanent pass from me. Not to mention Leonard Shelby.
  6. Not necessarily a valid assumption. Most engines are designed to optimize efficiency "at speed," meaning probably around 2000-3000 rpm. And that usually means getting a higher volume/mass of air (relative to fuel) moving through the engine (hence turbochargers). In addition to not moving so getting no miles for your gallon, idling is not fuel efficient at all.
  7. In case you didn't know, every time a state or the feds pass some law that could disenfranchise voters, opponents sue and prove a tangible deterrent effect on potential voters. To counter, this, the proponents of the law would need to prove that there is actual vote fraud that is addressed by the legislation (voter ID, whatever). And they have consistently failed to do so. For decades. So the allegation of widespread voter fraud, "without evidence," is a long-standing lie for decades now. Despite the recent increase in allegations of vote fraud, there has been a failure of proof of it for decades. And they have every motive and resource to prove it, even to try and make up some bullshit that some jackhole like Reed OConner and the Fifth Circuit would swallow whole. Complete and utter failure.
  8. Well, going straight to the source, the Society of Automotive Engineers estimates the savings at 7.27 to 26.4%. I suppose SAE is pretty credible.
  9. What about French, Dutch, and German? And why are we including the dirty Irish bogtrotters?
  10. So, I had a convo yesterday with my Trumpy FIL. He seemed far more subdued in his Trump enthusiasm than in the past. One of the topics that came up was environmentalism/conservation. He is a climate change denier, or, more accurately, doesn't believe we can or should do anything about it that would harm us economically. But he is an outdoor type guy and believes in conservation. He agreed that the EPA and environmental laws have done a lot to clean up the nation over the last several decades and should continue. And also that corporations are not going to do it on their own. I don't believe he understands the degree to which Trump is gutting the EPA, the clean water and clean air acts. He mumbled something about it being transferred to some other agency. It was subtle, but I do believe that he is coming to understand that this shit ain't right. And that its little more than corporatism.
  11. I really don't mind it at all. But my engine has pretty low rotating mass at 2L. I'll grant that start stop and cylinder deactivation may shorten the life of an engine, subjecting it to additional transient operating conditions. But there's a whole lot of other, more fundamental shit that's keeping the modern vehicle from being a 100k++ vehicle. Direct injection, high-pressure fuel pumps, turbochargers, extensive electronics operating in high temp and high/variable humidity conditions.
  12. A complete MAGA-off. A Trump blow-bang. The rest of the country is slowly backing away from Trump, Texas is doubling down. We already know Texans are stupid, we'll see if we are collectively fucking stupid (h/t Jeff Skilling).
  13. You're either an older-than-average parent, or that's quite a humblebrag.
  14. 30-40 something year old white guy in Jersey wearing a Callaway golf cap is protesting Trump. They in trouble.
  15. Cylinder shut-down has matured as a technology and is used on Corvettes and V8 trucks to significant effect, common estimates are 7.5% improvement in fuel economy. And, yeah, if the temp drops enough at a stop to kick on the compressor, start/stop will start the engine, even if your foot is still on the brake.
  16. A lot of lawyers in high profile non political positions see themselves as exemplars of righteousness, or good behavior or something. And their colleagues have the same expectations of them. Kind of like Bozo prattles on about. The modern tech bro is someone who put a gloss on the personal computer and the internet, and didn't contribute much to our lives or this country. Maybe if you want to throw Kilby, Noyce, Moore, Hewlett and Packard, and Berners-Lee in there you might be onto something. Maybe even Gates and Jobs. But fuck the rest of those incel, spectrum, socially retrograde fuckers arriving since about 2000.
  17. Also strikes me that this does coal miners, the labor, a real disservice. Coal's been on the way out for 20-30 years and I guess that sucks for miners, but they've had a good long while now to adjust and GTFO out of pennsyltucky. This is at best going to give them 3-4-5 years to work their shitty jobs and not get on with it.
  18. I mean, I haven't had one in like 15 years, but ate em regular for probably 30 prior to that and they were always round.
