  1. I'm guessing floating that there are other options do Urban's camp wouldn't feel they have us in an all or nothing situation. I sure as hell hope it's just a leverage move if that's what they're hearing, bc Brian Kelly would be about as underwhelming a hire as we could get.
  2. We just spent some time up there and the Grand Lake area was one of our favorite spots. Really sad to see this happening there. This whole area was dealing with a different fire at that point, mostly smoke, that was supposed to have subsided by this point (not sure if it has or not). Feel awful for all of the good people we met up there going through this now. Can't imagine having to urgently evacuate homes/businesses and not knowing how you'll come back to find them.
  3. I don't think it's how he meant it, but I read it as being on your 6th qb in a 10 year period might not be great. When you consider Sam has basically started 4 years, it means we almost had a new starter each year for 6 years. Talk about Browns level management of the position.
  4. Yeah, look at the complete shambles ohio state was left in after him. I wonder if they'll ever recover. Florida, yeah, but that had nothing to do with any scandals and everything to do with Muschamp's horrible OC decisions.
  5. I've seen it said here over and over, our team is very bad at situational football. At that point in that game we needed a sustained drive. The risk of giving the ball right back to ou and putting our tired defense back on the field was not worth trying a low percentage play. Sam running on 3rd and 1 is a high percentage play, sustains the drive, and gives momentum time to shift and our defense time to rest. Instead we gambled on the low probability play, came up short, punted and put our d right back out there. I honestly don't care if Bijan was open, Sam missed him by a mile which tells me they're not yet in sync enough to take that risk. It was a bad call/bad decision all around.
  6. Whatever happens here, I predict Matt Campbell will still lose to them in 21.
  7. I was thinking almost the exact same. Harsin had the distinct advantage of following Greg Davis, meaning almost no matter what he'd be a hero to Texas fans. He also wasn't Major, so not viewed as Mack's security blanket. To his credit, he accomplished some pretty amazing things with fairly limited personnel, especially under center. I think that's his specialty, getting maximum production out of limited personnel. What I'm not convinced of is that he can 1) recruit competitively at a P5 program, or 2) get maximum production out of top tier talent. He's never been asked to do either and I'd rather not be the guinea pig on those questions.
  8. Holy shit, that guy is a bit unbalanced. The amount of time he's spent tweeting at/about Yale is...not normal. He seems really interested in dfw schools and billy luicci's tweets, so I'd say as a source claiming to have inside information about ut based on living in/working in Austin, he's as solid as they come.
  9. 8:15 on a Tuesday?
  10. Special uniforms for a home game against Baylor that we've had two weeks to prepare for while sitting at 2-2 and losing in dramatic fashion to tcu and ou the last two outings just makes so much sense for this team.
  11. https://web.archive.org/web/20121025015046/http://www.shaggybevo.com/board/showthread.php/43277-Geoff-Ketchum-is-a-fraud... The internet never forgets... Edit, I think ketch's fun starts on page 2
  12. We really don't do much of anything to make you pay for covering the deep pass. Our run game, save Sam, is atrocious at this point and we clearly aren't letting Sam run much. Add to that, our short passing game is limited and we're not very good at executing it consistently, so even if we get a few first downs we're likely to stop ourselves sooner or later through poor execution or penalities. We tend to like to dig holes for ourselves and then chunk it deep and pray it works. We might win a few of those match ups, but we'll miss a lot, too and you have a decent shot at an interception given we seem to throw it whether it's well covered or not. The more I think about it, the more clear it becomes how easy we are to defend. Until we get something going on the run game or get some short passing concepts we can reliably execute, we're a one trick pony who's not that good at our one trick.
  13. Only two reasons I can think of for not firing mensa already: 1) If he's been told you need to win the conference or it's your job, he statically still has a chance and maybe he's asked for that. At some point, based on our current trajectory, that will no longer be true and he will have failed at one of the requirements to keep his job this season. He might not be fired until we're statistically out of the big 12 race. 2) We don't want to fire him until the next guy is lined up. This one feels more likely to me. I think if someone like Urban was locked up, Tom would be out the door based on results so far, but I don't think even the biggest pessimist among us could've predicted a worse start to this season. Our search has probably escalated very quickly, but not surprising it's not done yet, and from a stability standpoint having the job open for as short a time as possible seems preferable. I believe he'll be fired before the season ends, and I think due to the early signing period, mid season firings will become more the norm. We're just one of the first big programs to need to fire a coach since the early period started, so it still feels unusual.
  14. It doesn't seem certain that Meyer wants to be anywhere 10 years, so I'd be surprised to see him push for that. I remain convinced Jimbo and his agent were trying to anchor high with the 10 year request expecting aggy to try to negotiate them down. Based on the parts of the agreement I've seen, I'd be surprised if aggy negotiated a single point. Feels like they had Jimbo's agent draft a proposal and just said "ok, looks good."
  15. Defense came out and dominated ou first series and Rattler was clearly shaken. Offense comes out and turns the ball over within about 10 seconds of possession time, putting the defense back on the field with a short field. By the time the offense decided to wake up, the D had been on the field for an insane % of the game. They had the ball 50% more time than we did in a very long game, and OU does not exactly play ball possession. 3 and outs and turnovers through the meat of the game will do that. Defense wasn't amazing by any stretch, but they did enough to beat ou against ou's strength. Offense against ou's weakness laid a big egg other than about 8 minutes of total play time.
  16. He is definitely positioning things this way, and I'm quite certain purposefully. It's basically the only leverage he has, outside of $.
  17. Wait, are you saying the "if not Urban Meyer" poll thread is not the ADs official way of deciding was to pursue next if Meyer falls through?
  18. Either he fucked us over or we fucked ourselves over, or maybe a bit of both. Would love to hear one of the surly lawyers interpretation of how that was able to go down. After the shit he and Wickline pulled with his title and the osu contract, no one should really have been surprised. Edit to add, the only thing that gives me slight joy from the while usf/Strong contract debacle is that they probably thought they were taking advantage of us, but later learned Strong was taking advantage of all sides. No matter how cheap he seemed when they hired him, they still massively overpaid. That's what they get for trying to fuck over another school with a shitty contract arrangement like that.
  19. This is the #1 thing I'd like to see Texas adjust in coaching hires. Strong and Herman are reminders that your ability to succeed in your first stop doesn't always translate elsewhere. We should definitely have our eyes on guys like Elliot and build a relationship for something down the road, but let him go prove it somewhere else before we come calling. I don't particularly like him, but James Franklin is a decent profile for the kind of coach we should go after. Had really unexpected success at Vandy and has followed that up with a respectable run at Penn State. He's had good teams at multiple schools with different players, and I think he can coach. Again, I don't really want him in Austin, but guys like him and Petersen from Boise/UW are the more proven types of candidates we should target. Fleck might fit this bill, too, if he can sustain success at Minn for a few years
  20. Did you guys know there's a politics board? I've heard it's great. You should check it out and also move all of this political dumbfuckery to it so the rest of us can enjoy the football board as a break from that shit.
  21. Maybe when Meyer ditches us after 4-5 years (like everyone is predicting) with at least a couple of NCs under his belt, Saban can ditch Bama and come win one here, too. You know, just to get even. That would be fine.
  22. It is definitely odd. I'm curious if the way the Saban news leaked and fucked it all up has resulted in more of a gag order this time around. Or, maybe nothing at all is happening. But it's probably the former.
