I’ve had the 9 yr low rye at a friend’s and own a bottle of the 10 yr high rye. It’s good but for whatever reason isn’t a go-to for me. The 9 year isn’t special, but I’m sure it will be sought after and hyped eventually.
I definitely grabbed two EHT Rye and traded them away this year and at one point I saw them six deep on the shelf. My guess is there was a release mid summer.
Revisiting Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel tonight. Better than I remembered on the neck pour but still not sure it’s worth $20 more than a good 9-10 yr store pick.
Manfred is high. Also, hell yes Dodgers. Weird that they finally won after putting USC’s finest in charge of pitching in LA. Only a couple dumbass pitching moves by LA while Cash basically screwed the pooch all the way to the L tonight.
Let’s talk about what I’m going to trade you for that Boone County. Since we’re d swinging I have about 8 Blanton’s including a few store picks. Or maybe some RC6 since you’re a big into Maker’s and I don’t see any there.
What. Checked the Twin app and it’s in stock at the one closest to my house. You can’t have to drive more than 10 miles right now to get one if you live in the general Austin area.
Whoever recommended that Peerless is not your friend. Worst bourbon I drank or bought in ‘19, losing out slightly in the worst whiskey category to Balcones Rye.
Ha, Remus Volstead is money but I can’t imagine it not getting crushed by EHTBP for me. The real contest would be Volstead vs EHTSiB, Masters Keep 17, Knob 15 LE and Wm Heavenhill BiB in a Power 5 conference/distillery 100 proof throw down.
It’s worth $99 at Spec’s for sure. I like oak and age and it’s in the same price range as the Knob 15 LE at the same proof. I could argue that MK BiB 17 is worth $50 more and Knob 12 is worth $50 less, but there’s nothing else really that old and oaky for that price. It showed up again at Spec’s so most should be able to find one if they want it.
In other news, I picked up an RC6 today while looking for the Maker’s 2020 edition. Why these bottles roll out a year after release is still a mystery to me. I’ve picked up a ‘19 GTS, ‘19 4R SMBLE and the ‘19 RC6 in the last 2 months.
EC Toasted has that same slightly off note that Garrison Balmorhea has. I’m not even sure how to describe it but I don’t like it as much as the Michter’s.
It’s really not that great. Bought two and traded one out for an ECBP and I wouldn’t pay $50 for another. It’s like 1910 except replace that amazing toasted marshmallow note with a bit of bitter wet oak. But not bitter wet oak in a weirdly good way like Michter’s toasted rye.
