Pretty sure that dude isn’t a dude (anymore) Will know in a month or so but I’m betting he’s another one who lost his gender identity to hypogonadism.

Buying term life insurance
Unique to every family dynamic. Does spouse work outside home? Would that continue? Dependent minors / disabled dependents? College Plans? Additional costs when you're dead (housekeeping, lawn, pool-boy to entertain wife?) Several other things to consider - retirement for spouse, etc. 10x is a quick and dirty catchall but can be too much or not enough. Plenty of calculators on line, or you can work with a fee only planner or agent and have them run the numbers.

Yep - On the Managing for Wildlife topic I talked about day leases and how back in the 60's through the early 80's the combination of day leases and doe permits (not tags on a license) set the hill country back decades. Big reason for the buck /doe ratio imbalance. There's nothing you can do to combat day leases, especially during the rut when bucks roam. The only hope is to have enough ground to give them everything they need and no reason to leave for the 90% of the year they aren't chasing. That's tricky, because it often means not hunting / not hunting very often, a good portion of your property if its small. Setting up those sanctuary areas cuts down on your hunting access so it's a tradeoff. I've seen it done with decent success where a buddy groomed a property to hunt from his boundaries inward......Making the inner circle an all inclusive deer resort and only hunting / traveling the perimeter. He is a bowhunter so that helped, along with the fact that the property was single in purpose....to hunt. No joy rides with the kids on the Ranger, and no hiking around kicking rocks and shooting cactus with .22's.

Southern Llano county - Enchanted Rock area. We've been blessed with the ability to invest time and money....mostly time. This is a low fenced ranch on all sides and even has some 16 frontage, so it's not a true sanctuary, but we try to make it such for the bucks. They get every opportunity to reach 5 years plus if they don't roam across the boundary or try and play chicken with trucks on the highway. Many years ago we made the decision to see what would happen if you fed a little and let bucks actually mature, instead of shooting "good" bucks at 3 or 4 years. Results have been pretty amazing. The hill country will produce +150" deer on the regular if hunters will just let them get there. Genetics often get blamed for the typical hill country buck, but in reality our observation is that a lack of patience is to blame.

This guy still has a baby face, but he'd be tempting up close from a bow blind. Massive potential here if he'll just hang around and not wander off and get shot this year. Looks to be a good year in the hill country. He hasn't even had one mouthful of protein and he's sporting some good bone for a 3 yr old....mother nature is providing plenty of groceries this year.

Top buck now has some kickers that are coming in but the daylight body shots tell me he's a year away from being mature. Skinny in the chest, leggy, and flat back. The middle two bucks do the same thing every night - Stare at the camera and say "Y U no work - Y U look at pictures all day" This buck below (stage left) is fully rocking the matching G2 kickers since this shot below, But I can't find the most recent one. He's got some potential, but may still get a year. Belly and back are too straight. Daytime shot of double drops is one of those stags due to chemical castration (toxic plant). Stays in velvet - Horns never dropped. Died back to 50% and then started re-growing. They get worse (or better depending on your POV) each year. He's a dead deer walking - No balls, nothing but a steer that eats his ass off. Will still be a cool mount in full velvet and a ton of great venison....as close to Axis taste as a WT will come since he's got no testosterone in him. I'll assign myself to be his hitman. I'm not itching to shoot a big, mature buck and am on permanent cull-duty these days. Really more fun for me b/c I don't get invested in chasing ghosts and don't feel the need to bust my ass hunting that hard.

The safety on a double action revolver is the hammer being down in double action mode - You have to put enough pressure on the trigger to cock the hammer back and then more pressure to release the hammer to fire. There isn't a safety to flip per se, but one doesn't accidentally discharge a double action revolver. It has to be a deliberate act to fully pull the trigger. That said, this doesn't preclude a child from willingly pulling the trigger without knowledge of the consequences. In the hands of a child without training and supervision, no loaded gun is "safe". They can just as easily flip off a safety on a semi-automatic and pull the trigger as they could fire a double action revolver by fully engaging the trigger.- The Gun Owner’s thread
Go for it. Just make sure one year after buying that the gun range operator recognizes you because you're a frequent flyer there. Nothing takes the place of repetition when it comes to shooting.- The Gun Owner’s thread
Can't see the description, but it looks like a S&W Airweight. Should be a 6-series for Stainless. I'd guess a 642. Hell yes. Fool proof, easy to handle, and not hard to practice. Shooting .38 training loads would be easy for even the smallest shooter. Couple of trips to the range and 100 rounds would make even a true novice capable. Brush up on familiarity and work on technique a few times per year with some "continuing education" and you'd be good to go. Loaded with standard or +P defensive rounds and it would ruin someone's day if they were threatening you and/or your wife. I don't mind the above recommendations for a Judge or Governor, but those are hulking and heavy handguns. Not easy for a small framed or small handed shooter. Nothing wrong with them, but at that weight, you might as well look at a small shotgun for a woman or someone else slight of stature.- The Gun Owner’s thread
I think the "short-stroke under stress" is considered an issue when talking about someone who isn't well practiced with said shotgun. I've never heard an "expert" say that is a concern except when in the context of home defense for an unseasoned shooter. You've got muscle memory that is almost guaranteed to overcome a stress-induced short stroke. Someone who puts 5 rounds down the tube and then puts it into the closet isn't going to have that luxury. That's my perception of the argument anyway......YMMV- The Gun Owner’s thread
I wanted one for a while. Figured it to be an AR 22-250ish round good for coyotes and culling doe. Cooled on it once the ammo debacle occurred. Fever seems to have gone away. May but an upper one day but not searching for one now.- The Gun Owner’s thread
An old man found an old bull fiddle with just one string and he loved it. Sat every evening on the porch plucking that one string. One day he and his wife went to town and saw a street musician playing chords on a 4 string fiddle. His wife turned to him and said "You've been doing it all wrong." He laughed and said "Nah - looks to me like he's hunt'n for something. I found what I like."- AMMO THREAD

I've sent several rifles to Justin there and he is incredible. He'll work on any rifle - provided it is a Pre-64 Model 70!!!!!! He'll do all kinds of cool things, from fully customized to restoring factory original parts and I mean all parts - down to the screws. He is so precise and meticulous it borders on maniacal. His website doesn't do justice to what he has at his disposal. Got an action with a shot out barrel...He'll have or will find an original to replace. Have a rifle with a replacement floor plate, butt plate, or sight - he'll have or find the "correct" and install it. Send him a Featherweight and he may call you and tell you that someone put a standard floor plate on it 40 years ago and if you want the correct Featherweight floor plate, he has it. I have to force myself not to buy shit just to see what he could do with it. He's got a wealth of knowledge, resources, and is a good guy too....passionate about what he does.- The Gun Owner’s thread
