  1. Happened to be talking to a dealer's body shop manager this week. Windshields and headlights came up. He said its comical what a busted headlight costs these days. Canned / sealed OEM units - no bulb to change. Pop-in headlight assembly for a new Cadillac CT-something or other costs $2500 per. Astounding. Said he gets a lot of pissed off customers - mostly husbands who come in dumbfounded they can't by a lens assembly and or bulb and do it themselves at home after their wife hits a garage column or wall in a parking lot. Not uncommon for a windshield with the collision avoidance sensors to cost $1200-$1500.
  2. Damn- they have them alright ….. but no bargains there unfortunately. That’s quite the assortment of calibers and some VERY collectible specimens. Couple of Bobs, a Swift, a Hornet and even a 250-3000 Savage. Also have a .300 win mag from ‘63. 1st year of that cartridge and last full year of production on the rifle before they cheapened the action. Their buyer has a good eye or is one lucky SOB, and their sales team knows the going rate for sure.
  3. The old 70s chambered in Bob are pretty scarce to begin with, and then factor in a non-standard factory barrel and that's a unicorn. Hate that she got away. I'm trying to be patient with that one, but it is on my list along with the Hornet and one of the H&H or other magnums. The market is such that you aren't going to grab one of those under $1500 in any reasonable condition, or under $2000 for a nice one anymore, unless you just happen upon one that is being sold without regard to the fair market value. I'm sitting on .270, a few in 30-06 (I love the fact that some are stamped Govt '06) and a .264. I'll tell on myself here, but I recently got a bit skunked on what I thought was a very old 70 chambered in 25-35 with a 4 digit serial number. All I had was the listing, and two bad pictures so I bought it......knowing I'd stumbled into a special order, very early, and quite rare rifle. When it came in I was confused by the bolt release. In doing my research, I figured out it wasn't a 70 after-all. It was a 54 (the 70's forgotten older brother) and someone had put a retro 70 3-pos safety sleeve on it which made it look for all the world like a 70 in the pics I had. I do not believe the auctioneer listed in wrong on purpose. I was fooled and I know plenty about them. I didn't pay a premium so I was more disappointed that it didn't live up to the hype I created in my mind, and I'm not unhappy that I've got it. But.....it sure would have been cool to have a one off like that.
  4. My favorite for everything it represents - History, quality, and functionality all rolled into one. I went on a bit of a bender some months back - Scoured the auctions (not gunbroker) and picked up a few that fell outside of true collector interest (flawed for one reason or the other), and then had them brought back to life by a guy who does nothing but work on pre-64 70's. Everything goes back to original.....from sights to but plates. Love them and love taking them into the field.
  5. I guessed this was in Cove or Wallisville before looking it up. 1st hunch was Anahuac, but knew nothing would supplant the gator festival.
  6. Publix is nice. Well run organization. (Great fried chicken) I've lived in Publix land and TX, alternating a few times. I'll often stop at an HEB and take their stuff back home. I've never made a Publix haul back to TX.
  7. HPDE injection molded accessories. Anything with HPDE or fiberglass resin is FUBAR in all things related to pricing and lead times.
  8. Today I had a manufacturer announce an increase of 13% at EOD tomorrow, and that's after a 12% increase in June. They are still trying to fill backorders from mid-April and their new bookings are still exceeding shipments, so they're continually losing ground. Both increases retro active to April 1st, so all those backorders that have been on the books for months have been slapped twice since they were placed. Discussion regarding the retroactive increase was....if you still want it, here's the new cost. You're welcome to cancel at no cost, but otherwise, amend your PO.
  9. Agree it is a factor. The other side of that coin is that the same COVID factor that are buffeting demand would also potentially do the same to supply so there is an offset. To what degree and for what segments is yet to be seen. Every meeting I've been a part of recently basically had the theme of "We Don't Know Shit" For every project that is being put on hold due to price it seems like another one is trying to accelerate to lock in pricing out of fear over future inflation.
  10. That’s a good one- once this tips start to turn and run horizontal instead of downward, you know it’ll measure well.
  11. Making some progress. This group is like clockwork. It is so green and there is so much to eat, the older bucks are not coming around much at all. If I had to guess and its who I think it is - that's one of them standing off at about 2:00 monitoring the youngsters on a drive-by.
  12. The ones that get seats on that plane aren't idiots. They may be willing accomplices, but they are not idiots. The idiots are packed in the pews.
  13. Show me where you spend your money and I’ll show you your priorities- In his case- Power - nothing less…..wherever he can buy it.
  14. Not necessarily this crowd, but in general people seem more pessimistic to me. I'm a firm believer that the shift to "news as entertainment" plays a huge part.

I was hoping to get some reasonable .300 Sav. before the fall, and jumped when I saw the post. I picked up a couple of Model 99's in the last year - One .300 and one .250-3000 and was hoping to take a cull or doe with open sights this year. At $40/box I'm still too cheap for that little nostalgic thrill.

Well - You screwed it up for the rest of us. Just went to Midway for the .300 Savage and price is back to $40/box. I knew I was in trouble when i saw $25 in red and realized that was my "Savings" - $64.99 marked down to $39.99. You must have woken up the pricing bots and they realized someone was too eager to pay $25 so they bumped it back up. Tanks for Nutin!
  17. Someone's wife got sucked into a MLM deal and she hijacked his account to advertise....that or he had a stroke.
  18. Feral hogs will destroy humanity if the fire ants don't get us first. Murder hornets are the killer bees of this generation.......nature's head fake to divert our attention.
  19. Dayuuum! Those are nice, but wow. I guess I haven't boot shopped in a long time. Are they motorized for that price, or do they at least have a built in massager?
  20. Some really cool, historic stuff up for sale. Group buy? Bonhams This one in particular..... Pat Garrett's SAA that killed Billy the Kid And this..... BILLY THE KID DOUBLE BARREL HAMMER SHOTGUN TAKEN FROM DEPUTY BOB OLINGER AND USED TO KILL HIM
  21. I'm not very savvy playing the points game, but I do use FHR every chance I get. Have had some good luck with room upgrades while the $100 spending credit, wifi and breakfast keep ancillary costs down. Checked in once at the same time as the couple traveling with us. Buddy's wife was PISSED when they upgraded us and read off the perks, after they were just given their keys and told to enjoy their stay. He was carrying and paid with the card but didn't book with FHR.
  22. The proper counterweights were still over by the funnel cakes.
  23. Been down this road..... At least in the one I looked at, the buy-in option was only those who wanted to start in what was considered Independent Living. You sell your house and "buy" a condo/townhouse on the property. You live on site, have access to all the meals, programs, etc., for a monthly fee, but aren't using the care services. Basically an all inclusive retirement community. Cleaning, lawncare, maintenance etc. is all taken care of. Simplifies life, but you still have your own place, own car, and full independence. If and when you need assisted living, you either a) stay in that townhouse/condo and pay an increased fee for help to come in, or b) move out of the townhouse/condo and into the actual facility and live in a pod with assistance on hand (higher monthly fee) Then you would transition from there to skilled nursing / nursing home care in a hospital room setting if it progresses that far. The Independent Living option is for those who want to have their own place, don't need any care, but want the convenience of all the services. They're the ones who "buy-in" and then resell at some guaranteed price point. Those who come to the facility directly into assisted living and or skilled care don't do the buy-in / re-sell, and simply pay the monthly cost of whatever care level they require. The buy in / buy out is sort of like a required put option on the condo when you move, die, or go into the main facility for assisted and skilled nursing. I know a widower in his early 70's who did this. Sold his house, got an Independent Living Condo and knows he won't ever have to move again. Still travels a bunch, and when he is gone he doesn't have to worry about anything. Zero maintenance, doesn't have to worry about a house, maid, lawn guy when he's not there. When he's there, he's free to do whatever he wants, has everything he needs, none of the ownership hassles, and uses the amenities as he choses.
  24. That effort would change the whole flavor profile of crawfish boils in southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas. They'd be adding lawmaker sausage instead of andouille to the boils and the taste wouldn't quite be the same.

Bingo! The ideal time to spray or fog (to maximize mosquito killing and minimize collateral damage) would be dawn and dusk, when mosquitoes are active and the pollinators aren't. That's why all of the automatic misting systems are set for those times. Pyrethrum for example, as a contact killer, is effective only on the critters who are out in the spray. Don't fog or spray during the daylight hours if you can help it.
