My favorite part was the 1 1/2 yr old 8 in the back who decided he’d sneak off with a babe while wanting no part of the fight in the field.

I'm An Alcoholic
Good point @TwiceHorn! For the normal drinker, booze isn't the axis on which their world spins. @BearSchlong I'm interested as to what direction or experiential advice you gave??? That's such a tough one for the newly sober. I'd be curious if they were also alcoholic, codependent, or perhaps both. All that seems to come into play when the family or significant other isn't content that the drunk isn't drinking and instead is bringing it up and/or encouraging it.

Yeah - I watched a Korth with an extra 9mm cylinder go for over $8600 at auction earlier this month. My wife said it better be able to cook for me and screw me b/c those things would be lacking in my life if I bid on it.

Yeah- here’s how I explain it. If you want an AR for shooting pigs, as a truck gun, or for casual shooting, you don’t need a higher end precision rig. The run of the mill will all go bang and will last. If you are being dropped into the desert where your life depends on the reliability of the rifle, or if you want one to approximate the accuracy of a higher end bolt gun for precision shooting then go with the Larue et al of the world. Match the problem with the solution. A LaRue will do everything a DPMS ORC can do, but the opposite isn’t true. Very similar to 1911’s . You can buy a Taurus or you can buy a Cabot.

When I was growing up we wrapped all ducks, geese, and dove in newspaper and stored them in a real ice box on the porch for a few days before cleaning them.

Urban Meyer or bust
That same statement could be written by every AD in the country save one (Winner of the playoff) every year. We didn't win, better days are ahead, and XYZ is our coach. It's true, and it would be irrelevant the following day if the right replacement coach was suddenly there for the taking. That was nothing more than "Thanks for coming, and we'll see you next year." It has no connection to what happens tomorrow, next month, or any other day to follow.

Yeah- I clearly haven’t thoroughly cleaned the cabin in a while bc my last drink was over 5 years ago. That bottle had been hiding under my head all these years.

I'm An Alcoholic
Spent the day cleaning up around my hunting cabin because the weather sucks for doing much else. Decided to flip my mattress - you know- get another 15 years out of it. Wouldn’t ya know it. Under the mattress was a 2/3 empty bottle of Beam in that convenient liter plastic traveler (90% of those have to be sold to our kind). Had mixed emotions. So very grateful I don’t have to come to at 4am and take a pull. A little disappointed in my old self that I left a man behind. I was always pretty good at inventory control and waste disposal so that’s out of character. Regardless, I poured it out and had that gratifying feeling like I had moved on from a toxic ex girlfriend who’s now a train wreck.

Playing in games that are always that evenly matched on the scoreboard but against only one team even in the same zip code talent wise? Texas isn’t playing down to the level of the competition, but rather is coached down to the level of the competition. That’s an indictment even if Herman was undefeated at this point.- I'm An Alcoholic
I get that and I'll admit it was tough. I had huge issues with the higher power concept and had all my thinking convoluted confusing religion with spirituality. I felt the need to believe what other did (or appeared to) but I couldn't do it intellectually. Huge internal struggle most of my life...... What helped me turn the corner was my sponsor asking me a few questions......Was I powerless over anything? I hesitated and he said, that it was evident I was powerless over whiskey and I had to agree. He then asked me if I was could stop the tide from going in and out at the beach. With those answered, he asked IF, since I acknowledged whiskey and the ocean were more powerful than I, was it possible there are other forces more powerful as well. When I agreed it was possible, he had me stop right there and said that was enough.....willingness to believe. That's where it started for me, and sometimes has to restart for me when I get off kilter. That said, I also know some people in AA who in whatever fashion they choose, do not really have a higher power that they acknowledge. It works for them and they're happy and sober so who am I to say what's right or wrong. The goal isn't to ace some compliance test. The goal is to live soberly; happy, joyous and free...... so whatever works sounds like a good plan to me.- I'm An Alcoholic
Yeah - the Who, Where, & How is all above my pay grade. There is something in control out there, it isn't me, and my job is simply to check in on the regular.- The Gun Owner’s thread
I knew a guy who loved to pull random parts- O-rings, washers, etc. out of his pocket and slip them on to a work surface right before completion just to get people worked up. He found it hilarious, but was smart enough to not let it go on too long, or ever walk away without revealing the joke.- Urban Meyer or bust
Herman's personality is not one that will handle that gracefully, either.- Eat What You Kill - Game Recipes, Food Prons
Take a 1015, peel, cut off the top and scoop out about 1/3 of the center with a grapefruit spoon. Put a dollop of butter and a generous slug of Allegro in the cavity. Wrap in foil and bake or cook in the coals of a fire.- The Gun Owner’s thread
That's funny.....Glad it worked out to be nothing.- The Gun Owner’s thread
Controlled Chaos will be your friend in that case. They won’t linger / suffer but they’ll run like hell for 100-200 yards and out of your feeding/hunting area if you put one behind the shoulder of a big hog.- 2020/2021 Hunting Thread
Main beam length and tine length are where scores are made. A wide spread looks cool but isn’t what adds inches like beams and tines.- 2020/2021 Hunting Thread

Yeah- they splatter.....Just a wounded, infected, pissed off pile of pork still running around.- 2020/2021 Hunting Thread
Big 8's are special. Something about them that is pure and almost regal.- New Houston Restaurant Recommendations
Miiller's Meats in Llano is now shipping their smoked tenderloins....both beef and pork They've stopped all game processing and are 100% focused on retail and wholesale. I had their smoked prime rib in Nov. and it was excellent. I'd try them for the beef tender. They'll package and ship.- The Gun Owner’s thread
Picked these up this week. 10mm has been AWOL at any price but I’m giving these a try as a substitute to my normal Underwood hunting rounds. SG Ammo with this hookup.- The Gun Owner’s thread
I’ve been a big user of Lehigh’s bullets for some time, including the Controlled Chaos. If you’re looking to actually recover hogs then I’d advise CNS shots. Controlled Chaos are very lethal but hogs usually have a lot of run in them if shot behind the shoulder. We don’t choose to recover a lot of our hogs so it’s perfect for us. Very lethal but they usually get a good 100+ yards out before expiring. Gets them out of proximity of feeders and food plots but they don’t suffer / linger like an FMJ or a gut shot. If your hunting them to butcher, the Controlled Chaos is a bit pricy for what needs to be a head / neck shot if you want them DRT and eliminate tracking. If you’re shooting in the ear anyway, save the $ and use an fmj. IMO the Controlled Chaos is more of a self defense round that won’t over-penetrate than a fast recovery game round. They’re in a PCC in my bedroom for home defense, but I only shoot hogs with them if I’m feeding coyotes. Just my real world observations- YMMV Also- love Lehigh Extreme Penetrator and Extreme Cavitator for large bore handgun hunting AND game recovery!!! - Tom "the turtle" Herman [Lame Duck or greatest 5d chess player ever?]
