LAX Ammunition re-man. has never let me down. I wouldn't shoot someone else's hand loads that I don't know well and trust; As I know plenty of people well......some that I wouldn't trust loading a slingshot for me. A large scale producer of re-manufactured ammo like Gorilla, LAX or any of the others - No worries.

@Brisketexan Color me very jealous. A MAS-49 has been on my list and I've been trying to pick one up at an auction house for a while now, but keep getting pushed over my number. Collectors have been scooping them up. Mind me asking where you found it? I hope the boys doesn't mind the "Never been fired...dropped once." jokes that are sure to follow.

There is a lot of value in numerous Turkish guns if you're looking for something you know will go bang on a budget. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if it fit my need and price point.

Yeah- SG Ammo was sounding the alarms on how cheap stuff was for the past couple of years and kept their prices until all of their inventory was depleted. No profiteering there. Prices only went up when his COG rose. Guy’s honest and up front. As stated above, his newsletter told you it wouldn’t last and to stock up.

Depression, OCD, and whatever else ails you between the ears
Only my experience but when someone is suffering from what many would call low self esteem what I usually see is an overwhelming focus on self, but through a negative lens. If one can focus or be focused on serving others / looking outward, they can’t help but get some relief. It’s moving that magnifying glass that’s concentrating a hurtful beam of light off of self, and flipping it around so the light spreads evenly and comfortably on to others.

Depression, OCD, and whatever else ails you between the ears
@Bogeywon this Daily Meditation made me think of you- Applies regardless of who or what your higher power may be..... “He that has eyes to see, let him see.” To the seeing eye, the world is good. Pray for a seeing eye, to see the purpose of God in everything good. Pray for enough faith to see God’s care in His dealings with you. Try to see how He has brought you safely through your past life so that now you can be of use in the world. With the eyes of faith you can see God’s care and purpose everywhere.

Official bitch about your family 2020 holidays edition
Does the same with dryer sheets. Washes and reuses ziplocks, all foil, and Saran Wrap. Fridge is full of old, tiny pimento jars with nine kernels of leftover corn in one, a bite of mashed potatoes in another, etc. My wife thinks her mom was a refugee in a past life. Last year she did one of the DNA Ancestry kits under the guise of family history but really to determine if she was adopted because my wife (unfortunately) shares zero “savings” genes with her mom. ******Today’s turkey was no doubt bought on sale 364 days ago during the 2019 post T-day grocery clearance sale and kept frozen until last night. If I can find the tag I’d bet my home I’m right.

This is MILs way of fending off impending poverty through paper towel conservation - in spite of a very large net worth and an annual income of which she only spends about 30%. When I got here she was ironing used aluminum foil; smoothing it enough to tent the turkey when necessary. I’m afraid to go see if the toilet paper rolls have also been cut in half.

Is it just me or does Ari Paul remind anyone else of a $9.95 recruiting guru takings bits of public information and turning them into “news” by adding reports from anonymous sources and citing unverified big cigar quotes?

Texas Recruiting Notes 2022 - Idiotic Slapfights Unrelated To 2022 Recruiting
tOSU has its rightful place among the football blue bloods / elite and also as a decent academic institution , but it shouldn’t have a place as a dominant recruiting force - whipping Texas for elite high school talent in this state. Strong and Herman have the been enablers. The entire state of Ohio should give thanks for those two at their meal tomorrow.

Depression, OCD, and whatever else ails you between the ears
You are deserving of good things and love. Feelings aren’t facts, although at times they can feel as such. You’ve done the right thing by speaking up and realizing that you “feel” like that, even though that’s not reality. Just because our mind thinks somethings, that doesn’t make it so- again- feelings aren’t facts. There are numerous things that could be firing in your head, life circumstances or imbalances in your body that might lead to those feelings. What’s important now is to acknowledge them, understand that it’s not the reality, and seek help to identify what’s causing those feelings. It could be physiological or psychological causes, but it’s not true that you are undeserving. A trusted, closed mouth friend at least, and a professional at best would be the important confidants at this point to help deconstruct those feelings and determine the root cause. From there, you’ll have a pathway forward. God speed, and I pray you find some comfort soon, along with the necessary assistance to get some relief from the thoughts that are lying to your heart. Your posting here is proof that your heart knows what your head is doing isn’t factual or the truth.

2020/2021 Hunting Thread
A youth auto-loader with only one shell in it is the way to start. 410 or 20 ga. would be ideal. 410 autos are hard to come by and tend to be on the expensive end. My kids had killed deer with a rifle from a rest by the time they were 6-7 and started shooting shotguns unassisted around 7-8. A LT-20 1100 was their starter. Weight is important but barrel length is what you want to manage. A 26” barrel would be best... max of 28”. It becomes as much about leverage as it does weight. Auto-loader helps with recoil and loading one shell at a time prevents an accidental discharge if he loses his balance after one shot, or double-taps the trigger by accident.

I'm An Alcoholic
People couldn't care less that I stopped drinking, other than those who were impacted by it and those select people are thrilled. Years later, I still have reasonably close social acquaintances who haven't even noticed. The fact of the matter is that they weren't paying attention to my drinking before, and still aren't - in spite of my ego telling me that everyone is always watching me, judging me, and monitoring my every move. The only people who have every really said anything were a couple of other alcoholics who have come to me asking how I stopped and wanting me to help them. I've come to believe through experience that the only people who judge or monitor others' drinking in a social setting are (as Bear said) problem drinkers or alcoholics who are using others as a measuring stick; Either...."I drink like them and they aren't a drunk so I'm not either." or "I don't drink as much as them so I'm OK." Rationalization at its finest. Once we realize that we aren't the center of the universe and the focus of all attention and thought, the anxiety and self consciousness lifts, both about drinking and the 1000 other things on which we think there is a spotlight in our magnifying mind.

2020/2021 Hunting Thread
I hunted in Pike County, IL about 15 years ago and seeing deer walking in a field with a softball sized turnip in their mouth with the greens hanging down tripped me out. That image is one of the most prominent memories that I hold from that hunt. Almost all of the cash crops had a 30-50 yard wide strip of turnips planted along the outer perimeter circling the entire field.

I'm An Alcoholic
@InkaUtexas Glad you stopped by. When I talk to people about their drinking, its very important that we (that person and I) differentiate between heavy drinking, problem drinking, frequent drinking and alcoholic drinking. The "normal" drinker (even if they have been going at it hard for some period of time) can moderate or stop all together when given sufficient reason, but here is where the rubber meets the road.....they can do so and maintain their sanity and happiness. Those of us that are real deal alcoholics may be able to moderate or stop, but we are literally and figuratively white knuckling the process and feel like our skin is peeling off. Eventually the fingernails against the chalkboard of life becomes unbearable and we drink again. Even moderation is painful, because we have an allergy that demands another drink once we take even one. Denying ourselves additional drinks after the moderation threshold is met is painful. That's what you'll find described in more detail among the pages of the Big Book, along with how we recover from what seems like a hopeless state. Hopefully you can stop or moderate as you see fit and not be in pain while doing so. If not, pull up a chair and take a load off. We've got a good deal going here as well.

Soup, Stew, Chili, Gumbo (Cold weather eats)
I believe this is correct. My understanding is that as the starches get cooked out pf the roux at the darkest stages, there is nothing capturing the oil and holding it in the "solution". Affects appearance and mouth feel if it allowed to settle and separate, but not the flavor and isn't apparent when stirred and eaten relatively quickly. The oil has done it's job to impart flavor and color in the browning, but leaves the party if it goes beyond that.

Frog legs
Brush them with a light coating of yellow mustard before putting them in a paper bag filled with corn meal.....shaking to coat Mustard doesn't come through as a taste, but does an excellent job of holding just the right amount of cornmeal on the legs, and just works somehow to bring out the flavor. Same thing for fried catfish. It just works and you won't ever cornmeal fry without it.

2020/2021 Hunting Thread
Best skinning fail I ever witnessed was a guy who decided he was smarter than everyone and was going to pull off the hide with his truck. Tied off to his hitch and proceeded to pull a entire skinning rack over onto his truck. In the time it took him to create and then fix his cluster fuck, multiple deer were skinned and quartered on the adjacent rack.

I quarter a lot of deer and never gut them, especially when it is cooler. Skin, back straps, hams, then take tenderloins out from the back, and move on.
