Iran
I confess that as an outsider, I don't know how true that is today. Recent (2022) polling seems to indicate that religion/religious fervor is not nearly as strong a cultural motivator as it was 47 years ago.

Minneapolis ICE Murder
Shit, I just look at the social media responses from them, in response to any criticism of ICE and its tactics: "Why are you siding with all of the millions of rapists and murderers who ICE is just trying to get off our streets?!?!?!" It's fucking psychotic. AND, it tells you that propaganda works. I have a messican last name. Therefore, I am a rapist/murderer. It's that simple. If you aren't a "heritage American," you aren't just an illegal, you are "vermin," and a "rapist/murderer." Sure makes it easy to rationalize purging all of us. After all, that's what one does with vermin and criminals, right? Need to get them off our streets. And once we've decided everyone who isn't a "heritage American" is vermin/criminal, well then....it makes the genocide, which has begun, that much easier. And yes, the genocide has begun. When you seek to purge a country of an entire ethnicity/race -- which they unquestionably are, one of his most trusted advisor suggested that all 65 million latinos in the US be dealt with at "Alligator Alcatraz" -- and you begin active efforts to do so regardless of the law or legal status (yes, they are killing people in custody, yes, they are nabbing and imprisoning people with legal status, including citizens), the genocide has begun. An argument of "well, it's not a full holocaust YET" is no argument at all. We are in our Kristallnacht. Unless we stop it, it progresses to our Auschwitz. Will it go that far? That's up to us. Right now. We are in the decisive moment. The time to stop a fire from becoming a conflagration is right when it starts. You gonna be a firefighter, or you gonna toss gasoline on the fire?

Iran
Solid observation. The disconnect between much of the diaspora (particularly the American portion) and the population in Iran seems quite material. But I wonder about whether critical mass has or hasn't happened (with limited info, it's hard to tell). Again, what's MAYBE different now is that so many are in the "we have nothing left to lose" position. Starving your people gets governments deposed. That's been a thing for a long, long time. That could work to suppress the movement.....or it could tell them "you're dead already, they're going to kill us if they stay in power, so we have no choice but to depose them." A message from the regime of "when this is over, I'm going to kill you" is a strong motivator for the intended victims to not stop until the regime is deposed. I mean, you just told me that I'm dead if I resist, I'm dead if I capitulate....I might as well try for the third option: make you dead/gone FIRST.

"Might reasonably argue?" Dude. We're through the fucking looking glass.

Iran
I don't think it's quite that simple. A populist uprising can cause the regime's leadership to flee, leaving a vacuum. Now, the fact that there is not cogent opposition means that vacuum could be really shitty and last a while and Iran could descend into a civil war (based in part on ethnic factions) is entirely possible. In short, you're not entirely wrong, but you're not entirely right. Having a real opposition might help move things forward, but having hit a critical mass of population with nothing to lose is a unique problem for the regime.

Iran
The regime does find itself in a bit of a pickle it hasn't been in before. "Stop protesting our we'll kill you." "My dudes. We can't buy food, and much of Iran is running out of water. We're already dead. So your threats don't exactly carry the weight they might have once had." Angry about liberty and freedom is one thing. Anger about not being able to eat is quite another.

ICE activity/raids
What I don't understand is why we haven't seen Bivens-claim civil rights suits filling the court clerks' offices all over. These are good cases. FFS, the official policy AND manufacturer's instructions on pepper balls (for example) expressly say "do not shoot people in the face with this." It is clearly established law that it is wrong to violate official policy and manufacturer's plain instructions for a less-than-lethal device. It's a winner of a case.

Hegseth & the Boys
He already said it won’t be “woke”. Let me translate that for you: we are going to turn over our entire military to an AI programmed and directed by Elon to be white supremacist. Turn over the most powerful military in the world to a racist robot programmed by a psychopath. What could go wrong?

Papers, please. Surly thread of deportation cruelty dominance
They're right. They should face massive and brutal reprisals. They chose this war. We need to finish it.

Texas -- a failed state
Always. These days, it's like the free space in the middle of every bingo card. It's just....there....always.

Non-political tariffs thread
He was always right. I thought Barack was a mid president, but when he caught flack for that, it was so fucking stupid. We stand on the shoulders of the people who came before and what they built. I say as I type this on an internet built by our society and government, and get ready to get on a highway built by same, etc., all as part of my successful business activity.

Texas -- a failed state
Remember, the wrongest thing in the world is to use taxpayer dollars to fund schools that might indoctrinate students into some sort of belief. And the rightest thing in the world is to use taxpayer dollars to fund schools that will, with a 100% guarantee, indoctrinate students into fundagelical political/religious beliefs. Duh. What don't you get, libtard?
-
Non-political tariffs thread
Whatever, buncha RINO libtards. Seriously, I'm posting that unironically. That is 100% how the regime will label them. Because this is another ironclad rule of this era: the leopards will get around to eating everyone's face, eventually. Yes, including yours. It's their nature. They can't help it. You were instrumental in creating this beast. Because your greed knows no bounds. You achieved fabulous wealth, and you lied to yourself and convinced yourself that it was due entirely to your genius, and clever gamesmanship. And you forgot the fact that it all depended on and grew from the foundation of a functioning, prosperous Republic. In your greed, you have killed the goose that laid the golden egg. And we all told you that's what you were doing, but your greed was matched by your enormous hubris. And here we are. Utterly Fucked, on a runaway train to Unimaginably Fucked. And you shoveled all the coal you could into the locomotive's boiler to get us here.

Thing$ $till not going well for Joe Rogan, I $ee.
Yes, you gut-wretchingly stupid dumbfuck. That is EXACTLY what we've come to, because that is EXACTLY what you espoused and supported and endorsed. "I didn't know they were actually going to do all of the shitty things they flat-out told us they were gonna do" is something only meathead utter dumbasses say. So, of course, that's Rogan's take.

Trump/MAGA has ruined sports
This. I've used this example repeatedly, but will do so again for clarity. I've read the Economist for decades. To the extent it takes policy positions (and it does, with regularity), I have historically been aligned probably 80% with their takes. Sometimes, they're too conservative (their deference to corporate power is too much for me), sometimes, they're a bit too left (which makes sense, they are a product of the modern European governance approach, and we'll have some differences, although they aren't chasms). The Economist really hasn't changed. It was a source and set of beliefs that many "traditional Republicans" would have agreed with 20 years ago. Today? They literally condemn it as a leftist rag. The Overton window has flown by us all. But in the past 10 years, functionally every Republican has gone there along with it. That's the difference. That's why I say there ARE not traditional republicans, just MAGAs. This shit was known in 2015. If you're still on board, you know what you've chosen. And almost none of them have defected.

ICE activity/raids
Grok would just reply with a nude depiction of children, and Elon would reply with a troll face. Fucking....THIS. Johnny Cash would be actively telling ICE to get fucked. And his estate should 100% sue the DHS. It's a lay-down winner. I told y'all he was gonna do this shit YEARS ago. ICE has little to do with immigration. It has a great deal to do with being one of the world's largest, best-funded militaries (seriously, compare the budget to global military budgets...it's right up there near the top) to be deployed (1) on American soil (2) against anyone the regime chooses to target and (3) answerable only to the regime, and immune from and not subject to any laws (pardons will be issued routinely and frequently when the time comes). ICE is an enemy occupying force, doing everything we all read about "secret police" of any number of authoritarian regimes doing back in the 80s and shit.

Trump/MAGA has ruined sports
Winning is our job indeed. We win by bringing the suffering to all of them.

Trump/MAGA has ruined sports
Sorry it sucks that it's true. If you are ultimately okay with supporting fucking absolute white supremacist white nationalist flat-out nazi (I mean, actual, literal nazi -- they use the same fucking slogans and everything) with your vote, then you are not a normie. You are a piece of shit. We crossed the Rubicon a good while back. Anyone on the Republican side of it today is a piece of shit. The only path forward for them is to experience enough suffering to make them cower/go away/give up.
-
Trump/MAGA has ruined sports
Bullshit. Because (1) there ARE NO "Republican normies." They don't exist. Stop. And (2)...see Thatguy and Aggie responses below. They will all, at a 100% rate, vote for more of this. They are beyond saving. All of them. Do not treat them as innocents who can be converted. That time has passed. It was doing BETTER than "not poorly." FFS, this was a cover of the Economist fall of 2024: All that this dipshit regime had to do was (1) not a goddamned thing, and (2) take credit for what was already happening. But they couldn't fucking do it. They'll come around and vote 100% for more of this. Because they can't POSSIBLE vote for a Dem, I heard the dems let a trans girl play tiddly winks at an elementary school in Oregon once. ^^^^^ This. It is the only accurate answer. I've suggested this so many times my brain hurts. There is no fucking reason that Whirlpool washers aren't being made in Honduras or Guatemala by now. Except for the fact that we can't get past demonizing and hating brown people who live nearby. Want to solve 90% of our immigration issues? Make the places people are leaving places that people might want to stay. That's it. It's that easy. How do we know it works? See Germany and the rest of post-war Europe -- post-1945, refugees by the boatload fleeing because there was nothing for them. Then the Marshall Plan, rebuilding Europe and providing it a future. Now, people go TO Europe, they don't flee from it. None of this is hard. But none of it gives you a chance to be hateful and cruel, and those are the only currencies of any value in our current social economy. Yes, that holds for all of your supposed "Republican normies." They enjoy suffering, don't let their lies tell you any different. They like it, and will vote for it, without wavering.

Greenland
It doesn't really matter in any near-term. Per the analysis I've read, even if things started today, it would take 10+ years for any viable extraction mine (and attendant infrastructure) to be constructed. Rare earth minerals in Greenland is a long-term play. Long-term plays require certainty, an absence of hostility, etc. Give Trump a deal that lets him claim victory, and he'll lose interest in any follow-through.

Shit I've Cooked Lately
So...all this goes into the pan? For the Char Siu marinade.... ~2lbs Pork Shoulder that I cut into 3 smaller pieces 2 Tbsp shaoxing wine 2 Tbsp light soy sauce 2 tsp garlic powder 2 tsp onion powder 1/2 tsp salt 1 bag of Char siu seasoning ~1 cup of water Mix all the ingredients together and add with the pork in a zip lock bag and let it marinade overnight. I actually did this Friday night to cook for Sunday since I was going to be busy all day Saturday.

Trump’s America
.....Donald Trump, by pardoning every January 6th terrorist. And also numerous people who defrauded people out of millions and millions of dollars. And also the former president of Honduras who was part of a conspiracy to smuggle drugs to the US. Don't forget that. Donald Trump has turned more fucking bad guys loose inside the USA than any prior president, by a factor of hundreds.

Shit I've Cooked Lately

Elon Musk: Nazi traitor piece of shit [Confirmed]
1) Elmo will be posting shortly about how the UK is "WOKE ANTI-FREESPEECH DIRTY IMMIGRANTS!" 2) McCroskey will be posing shortly about how, really, this doesn't mean that the UK population opposes AI being allowed to make sexual deepfakes, there's some real nuance we're missing.

What's happening in Iran?
The ironic fact that you could currently substitute "American" for "Iranian" and that would be a legit message is not lost on me. Fuck all authoritarian pieces of shit. All of them.
