The fan dream of having maulers inside is dead. Sark and Flood are going to prioritize quick feet and pass pro over drive blocking. That does fit well with outside zone. 2024 OL is probably peak Flood. You are going to get Majors and Conner and like it. I am to the point that I wish Texas would cut the run game down and specialize in outside zone. Run a lot of OZ with QB boot with Arch. Minor in couple other runs (Counter/Duo), but dont run 10 concepts. Let's not do the camp and early season flirtation with gap schemes this year.
You could also say that Lacy’s development made Owens economically unviable. Does Texas want to spend money on a guy that was surpassed by a younger player? They also are paying a 5 star recruit legit money to sit on the bench this year and develop. Only 1 QB can play at a time. Given the growing concerns about ROI on NIL, I am not sure carrying 4 QBs will be viable
Probably the right move for him. He is probably the 4th best cover corner on the team currently. He is still a talented guy, but I am not sure how much playing time he would have gotten. Would love to have him on the roster, but we are seeing ROI becoming a major factor in CFB. You just cannot have money tied up on the bench. I think this is a really good sign for the 2026 defense. This secondary has a chance to be salty.
There is no question that he is a good RB. The question is if he is a healthy RB. He was planning on goign to the NFL. I am guessing he is not ready to pass a physical or he would be in the draft. That does not mean he will not be healthy by September, but do you want to drop 2-3 million to find out? That is before considering Brown and Haynes are similar players.
Haynes has a foot injury and that is the only reason he is not going pro. There are rumors the achilles is involved. Between these 2, Bo is the obvious choice. Just prepared to go through a painful negotiation next year, if you sign him.
I have not watched Gregory, but it appears Muschamp is looking to bring in another OLB type on the edge. Guessing that is based on the 5 man front Georgia uses (3 DL and 2 overhang guys). Type of guy that has the athleticism to drop and rush the passer. I think Texas has 2 current guys on roster that fit that mold. Simmons and Oragbo. Not sure Zina is that guy,
I think he is the 4th best CB on the team with Masco coming in and that assume Littleton does not move to CB. I always wondered why his big ass did not start at Nickel.
pair that with him looking for an edge with athleticism (4 years ago we called the OLBs). I think we will see some 5 man fronts (3 DL and 2 over hangs)
The reason everyone was happy that he went to Miami was how poor the QB room was and he was a really good fit in the McDaniels offense. That fit is not likely going to be as good, but a little premature to state that definitively .
That is fair. Lot of my concern about OL is Flood's management on the room and the plethora of solid WRs in the portal. I would still say Cam Coleman is the biggest difference maker among Texas targets. I do not think people appreciate the advantage to the offense that an outside WR that commands attention can do for the offense
I would agree on LB. That is probably the biggest need currently. If Barnes is not back, Texas has 1 scholarship LB with experience. I would disagree on WR, I have OL above that.
