  1. its more the back end and philosophy. It was a modification to his fly over defense from OSU. We shall see what they run. Knowles feuded with the staff last year and eventually won out. I am not sure that happens this year, as Patricia is not going to have the same level of belief in the system as Knowles. We will find out on Saturday
  2. Just going to put this here because it surprised me. PFF run grades for the Edges last year: Sorrell: 72.4 Burke: 57.6 Moore: 57.9 Simmons: 73.4 I would have never guess Simmons would have a better run grade than Sorrell. Even if you dont have 100% faith in PFF, it makes you think twice about how good Simmons was last year.
  3. Well this time last year if you told hte board Collins and Broughton were the starters, nobody would have expected a good run defense (especially in Broughton's case). Brevard and Shaw can anchor better than either, I doubt they are as disruptive but good luck moving them. You expect Hill and Lefau to improve in the run game. Hill improved dramatically in this regard from Freshman to Soph year. Liked Makuba and he was not afraid to come down and make a tackle, but Williams and McDonald will match that and then some (much bigger players). McDonald was one of the surest tacklers on the team last year. That is the bullish case for the run defense.
  4. Texas site had Williams and Taaffe starting vs Michigan. Mukuba starting CSU and UTSA
  5. I thought that was the case, but AI said the starting safeties were Williams and Makuba for Michigan and Colorado State .
  6. Just going to state the obvious on Stroh. He could not see his toes when he came to the 40. Believe he has lost 25- 30 pounds since he arrived and is still a very large human being. This is just a guy that transformed his body and is probably moving better as a result. He is probably looking better than his HS film, but hard to know where that puts him today.
  7. That is probably directed at a talented WR that has been inconsistent/not assignment sound.
  8. Knowles system is very specific. I think it is unlikely that Patricia will run the same system.
  9. People forget that Williams started vs Michigan to open the season.
  10. Oh God.. If it is Lockett, you are goign to have some on here.
  11. Some of my keys for Texas 1. Have to stop the run with honest boxes. It is a death sentence to have to bring down a safety vs OSU. 2. Need to have an efficient run game. Texas doesnt have to run for 200 yards but they need to average around 4 yards a carry. Do enough to keep OSU defense honest. Not expecting Texas dominate the LOS on offense. 3. Sark needs to adjust. Sark hates playing "junk" defenses. He likes to know the rules of defense and take advantage of them (his words). Not sure what Patricia will run and he has had all offseason to work on this game plan. Possible he does not run what Sark expects. Can Sark adjust?
  12. 100% on this. Clark could be the X factor in this season, if the practice reports are accurate. On the macro level, just having 3 RBs the staff trust will improve the room from 2024.
  13. I actually think OSU has a better TE room. Probably a slight edge at the starting position. OSU has a better mix. They have some solid back-ups that can block well. Texas depth is a complete mystery. I like the room and the talent level, but its pretty young. Blocking is going to be a major question mark
  14. not much to it. I was told by a former player (WR) that Strong's staff was a mess. He told the story one day in the middle of practice Watson was running the offense and got into an argument with Koenning. Before you know it coaches and players had to hold Les back from kicking Watson's ass. Apparently Koenning did not like Watson and this was brewing for awhile
  15. He has a 67.6 PFF grade in that game. That is pretty solid given what he faced. Put that in context Quinn had a 42.9 vs Ohio State. Not worth continuing this as it is not pertinent to this thread.
  16. he was a major reason ASU was in the game. HE made multiple plays on 3rd down to keep the defense on the field, while the Texas offense was sputtering. The prism you judge opposing QBs is not close to the one you use to judge Texas Qbs.
  17. Every time a see Watson's name I remember the story of the players havign to hold Les Koenning back for kicking Watson's ass in practice.
  18. That guy was not ass vs Texas. I watched that game and gained a lot of respect for that kid. He got the living shit beat out of him and had 0 WRs to work with in that game. Not saying he is a 1st round QB, but I dont get the "was ass my dude" comment based on the conditions he was forced to play in.
  19. I think secondary is bit closer than people believe. Igbinoson (Sp? ) led the nation in penalties. His game is reliant on the officials, if they call holds he is useless. Ransom, Hancock, and Burke wen to the NFL. I am not sure the basis for putting the OSU secondary over the Texas secondary. Both have question marks.
  20. That is not 100% accurate. Austin Siereveld played guard in the game vs Texas. He is bumping out to LT (Donovan Jackson played there)
  21. Not sure it is a big gap. This Ryan Day's offense. I would bet on Ryan Day calling some plays in this game.
  22. this is a worry on both sides. Its not unlikely that both OLs will lack cohesion to start this game. The OL that starts to figure things out first may decide the game.
  23. it also about opportunity. RB room is returning a opening day starter (Baxter) and a 1,000 yard runner (Wisner). Nickel position is apparently wide open with Gilbeau moving to CB. Texas will have some really talented guys redshirt due to the depth at the majority of positions.
