Man, I am enjoying all of these “you fucking idiots, if our rivals hire THIS shitty, overrated coach it would be an absolute disaster for THEM!” arguments that are popping up on every thread. I have no fucking idea what they are attempting to ward US off of, but I’m glad Texas is 9-1 and we can spend time ceaselessly bitching about who everybody else might hire (and why that is fucking stupid) for a change. I’ll just add my two cents—I’m baffled as to why Joey McGuire hasn’t already been hired. Dude beat OU, Texas, AND Ole Miss in the same fucking year. He did that and has all the quintessential aggie traits. He’s the fucking one, ags. Go gig him.- 2024 WR Ryan Wingo

“We’ll teach you how to make that amount every year if you enroll…” Yes, let’s teach a kid how to fish…for pertinent information: I’m sure @RollingPresidential loses sleep every night thinking about the path to wealth he chose not to take.. *Syd beat me to it, but the comparison tool might help visual learners understand how fucking stupid that guy’s assertion is.- Non Texas Recruiting 2024
This might actually be the most intellectually dishonest answer to “why’d you flip?” ever: “I’d say probably a month ago, I looked at Nick Saban and Hugh Freeze — Nick Saban is a good coach, all the stuff he’s had through college football. I know he specializes with (defensive backs), and my main position is receiver,” Thompson said. “And Hugh Freeze has got a background of developing receivers at a higher level. Just that, how you get receivers to their highest point.” Freeze coached tight ends for a year at Ole Miss. The exact same maneuver Charlie used to get Jeff Traylor on staff. In his time as HC at Ole Miss, he produced three draft picks at WR (one first rounder, Treadwell). He produced two at Liberty. His former WR coach at Ole Miss during that time is now at UCF after producing zero NFL picks in five years at Indiana. His current WR coach, who replaced Marion at the dumpster fire that was Hawaii, hasn’t produced a draft pick in his brief three year career. Saban? He has produced eleven draft picks at the WR position, including EIGHT first round picks. For all the criticism he received on this site earlier this year, Holmon Wiggins has coached six draft picks, including five top-15 selections, and one of those won the Heisman Trophy. Saban may focus on DBs, but even his tangential record on WR development is light years ahead of anything Freeze has done. Those eleven WRs have earned $332 million to this point in their careers. Freeze’s guys have earned $37 million. That’s just the WRs Saban has produced at Bama. If you want to add his previous two stops, that’s six more draft picks and somewhere around $75 million more in career earnings. I honestly don’t see the immediate downside for Auburn if he just said, “they offered me more money.” But, even if he wanted to give a more tepid response, why not cite the new OC and his proclivity for running the football, or the depth chart/playing time? You really want to reference the most prolific developer of NFL talent in college football history as why you chose NOT to go to Alabama? Did Freeze really convince this dumbfuck that he was responsible for Metcalf and Brown? If so, add three more first rounders and $90 million to Saban’s tab (not including the late Charles Rogers). I have no idea why I just went down a rabbit hole and dedicated this many words to a post about the Alabama/Auburn rivalry, but that kid’s comment struck me as one of the dumbest bullshit responses I’ve ever read (on par with Jimbo’s “they chose a&m for the world-class education” and “everybody says ‘why go to a program that’s winning all the time?’”). Freeze is an outstanding recruiter, but Thompson is galactically stupid if he actually believes what he said. One final random tidbit I came across—this kid’s hometown of Foley, AL (ironically, the same hometown as Julio Jones) is literally like the Cotton Bowl of the gump state rivalry. It is equidistant (231 mi) between the two schools. Geographically, it might help to think of it more as the asshole of the corpulent body that is Alabama..equidistant from the two sweaty armpits.- Texas Recruiting Notes 2024: Bags Don't Beat Bankrolls
I would certainly hope not—er, you said squinter? Well, I suppose that is kind of a negative. Better than the other, for sure, when talking about QBs, that is. I hope he finds one of those too though. Just be prepared, youngster. You’ll surely be a squinter if you aren’t.- Texas Recruiting Notes 2024: Bags Don't Beat Bankrolls

I remember the CWS broadcasters saying that David Maroul was going to skyrocket through the Giants organization. He was playing remarkably well at the time though. Michael Hollimon made it to the big leagues briefly, but I don’t think Seth Johnston (drafted 11 rounds higher) ever did. I know this probably isn’t the proper venue, but does anybody remember what the story was with Sam Stafford? I know he got hurt, but I don’t recall if that was the reason he didn’t sign with the Yankees. The Campbell stuff had me thinking of guys who were drafted high but didn’t sign. Sorry if this has already been discussed. Congrats to DC. Noble to consider returning, but his Texas legacy is in tact. Time to go get paid and chase his dreams at the next level. He earned it. As many have stated, a better opportunity/organization would be very hard to come by.- Negative Recruiting Your Own School: The aggy Screenshot Megathread
Not as notable, but UCF was 6-6 in the 2016 regular season after going 0-12 the previous season. The next year they went 13-0, claimed a national championship, and put Scott Frost on the fast track to becoming one of the most spectacular coaching busts of all time. He finished with the worst record for non-interim head coaches at Nebraska in six decades. His ineptitude made me a occasional lurker on their message boards and yt channels because the past dozen or so years of Texas football has led me to take comfort in the misery of others facing similar hardships. It’s possible to have a remarkable turnaround, but I think a forgiving schedule is the primary ingredient of that formula. As for a&m, I agree with what Bobby has said—they have to get better LB play this year. The defensive line is going to be ferocious, but I have no idea what will happen behind them. I like the Diggs guy as a downhill player. Secondary should be decent. Mathews and Anderson showed well at the end of the season. They have to be hoping that McCall and Grimes will perform to their earlier projections vs what they’ve shown on the field to this point. If that offense is dysfunctional again this year, similar results will follow. I could see Jimbo neutering Petrino (assuming he has any actual autonomy at all to begin the season) if he takes too many risks early, and reverting to the rock fight shit he kept rolling out last year because he knows the defense will keep them in most games. Weigman should be fine, but they better hope like hell that he stays upright. I’d love to see Arkansas and South Carolina beat them because I think they see those as simple wins, and it is a goddamn shame that we won’t get to see the pirate continue his campaign of torture and torment against all things aggie. RIP to that legend. With that roster, one would assume 8-4 has to be the baseline. With that coaching staff and persistent questions about whether the culture has improved, 6-6 is certainly in play. Like ctj said, they really were a couple of late hiccups from 3-9 last year. I wish we played at LSU. Covid took that revenge match from us. Did you mean Arkansas? I thought the atmosphere at DKR for both LSU and bama was really good, as good as it has been since tOSU in ‘06. I expect it to only improve going forward. Hell, I’m looking forward to Texas playing in the Big House before the sec shit even kicks off next year..you know, the largest college football stadium, and third largest stadium of any type, in the fucking world. Those guys are so dumb. They really do place undue importance on all the shit that happens other than on the field. It’s a function of them being completely irrelevant in that particular aspect of the competition (the part that actually matters the most). “Those fan bases will eat them alive..” Texas fans don’t give a shit what other fan bases think of them because they don’t have a deeply-ingrained subordinate mindset and aren’t seeking approval or legitimacy from anyone. What are they going to say that we haven’t heard before? These are the same people bloviating about how Texas has ruined the past two conferences they were in. That Texas is universally despised..so what’s new? What a bunch of fucking losers. Yeah, facilities and fan bases are going break Texas, but these whiny motherfuckers were throwing a bitch fit the minute the move was even announced (literally the impetus for this magnificent thread’s existence)..okay. Half of their fans are already on the verge of giving up. Lose to Texas at home in ‘24, and those gashes will start sobbing and advocating that a&m take their ball and go stomping home…to the big 10, defanged pac, or better yet, the new-look big 12. That is who they are. This is long, sorry about that.- Texas Recruiting Notes 2024: Bags Don't Beat Bankrolls

78669AG: I have a story for y’all…My grandpa was mediocre at football. This story is about some other guy. That guy (Ragan Gennusa, probably) was good at football, got a scholarship from Darrell Royal, and took advantage of the opportunity (story should end here). My grandpa didn’t, but I’m going to make it seem as if he turned down a scholarship at Texas…because he didn’t want to compete for playing time (noble cause), and chose SFA instead (good plot twist, eh?). Gramps got homesick in Nac (so playing time really didn’t matter…let me guess, the gf was back in PA?) and decided it would be best to finish at Lamar. Hence, no ag tag (Tarleton?), and I have to tell this shitty ass story about how my grandpa’s poor judgment and inability to challenge himself is somehow indicative of some malfeasance by Darrell Royal, even if it were true (he gave scholarships to girls?! That’s an unfair advantage!), to a bunch of dumbasses who think what allegedly happened with the QB was on par with buying a kid a gold car and still getting spurned, in order to fit in…as if paying for two stars wasn’t enough. Epilogue: Mr. Gennusa earned a BFA from Texas and did quite well for himself as a professional artist of some renown. Gramps maybe got a degree from Lamar. Moral of the story—if Texas offers you a scholarship, take it. Also, “if it happened before the 70s, it’s basically irrelevant” …So, Texas 2 A&M 0, in the shit that really matters, then? Army fielded arguably the strongest team(s) in college football history precisely because they were a military service academy (a real one)..I believe ctj or somebody has a nice thread dedicated to this history on the football board. Navy had two Heisman winners and two top five finishes in the early 60s. As always, their arguments have no merits.- Aggy 2024: Still waiting on the Looch 44
Haha, right? You want to bury the lede with that? “Guys I’m really excited about where this class is headed…let me remind you about how poorly things can turn out.” The ‘22 reference is as good as it will ever get for them. No need to get cute with the rest of that bullshit. Also, didn’t Leon’s football career likely just end due to him going into the stands to fight a fan during his semi-pro indoor football game? Awesome trip down memory lane, Howell.- Aggy 2024: Still waiting on the Looch 44
I was looking at 5-star receivers who went off the beaten path over the past decade and this one is up there. Obviously, Travis Hunter is in a category of his own, but that one doesn’t even strike me as that weird given his unique skill set, the cult of personality around Deion and JSU at the time, nil considerations, and the specialty training he could receive from his coach. Bru’s shitshow, while hilariously bizarre, was not too illogical given the circumstances presented. That left me with four guys who roughly fit my criteria—Laquan Treadwell, Robbie Rhodes (admittedly not a great fit), Speedy Noil, and Demetris Robertson. Robertson‘s is easily the most baffling case: 5-star wr from GA turns down Kirby Smart and Nick Saban to go play for Sonny Dykes on the other side of the country. He was in the portal less than two years later. Hudson (even as a legacy) is doing a really nice revival of that production—apparently choosing a middling air raid system over virtually every top-tier school in the country. It’s not hard to see the similarities between Coleman’s decision and Noil’s a decade ago. Top ten overall recruit from the heart of SEC country, rumors of behavioral issues, and a somewhat surprising commitment to the aggies. It really is interesting how strikingly similar some aspects of Sumlin’s and Fisher’s tenure are. And hey, one advantage Jimbo has over Summy is that the killer receiver he signed back in the day was actually acquitted in his murder trial..point Jimbo. Let’s hope, for these kids’ sake, that their career arcs don’t mimic those of their football forebears. —————— “You could see some snaps with three 5-star receivers on the field and a 5-star talent..” Here’s the thing, Bill—you could’ve seen that at any point last year if Demas wasn’t a complete fuck up, Marshall wasn’t his mirror image, Jimbo didn’t give up on Cupp, or he didn’t decide to sit Moose for an entire game because of a wardrobe decision. You know, if Jimbo could have simply been a competent head football coach? The real question is—can those fledgling 5-stars stymie their moronic bullshittery long enough to get on the field together? As the Bard once said, “what’s past is prologue.” We’ll see..- Negative Recruiting Your Own School: The aggy Screenshot Megathread
“As long as the alumni medal..” LOL It’s nice that the LSU football program (Woodward has done a nice job overall) actually has a high-functioning adult at the helm for the first time in two decades (and the two schlemiels they had previously still won titles), but it will be a cold day in hell before I ever give a shit what those dumbfucks see when they look at other programs and assess the men running them. Anyway, I’ve said it plenty, but thank you to @texifornia for creating this marvelous thread. Seemed like we reached a milestone when the SEC schedule was released a couple weeks ago. Expanding the scope was worthwhile. It truly is the most entertaining place on this site. I hope whatever is going on at twitter doesn't stymie the flow of information in this critical space or on the recruiting threads. Thanks to @Longhornfrenzy and all who contribute as well. I appreciate it. - Aggy 2024: Still waiting on the Looch 44
