  1. Does that really sting coming from a Texas basketball fan?
  2. Yeah that’s a terrible list. The only one I’d put above Ivey for sure is Musselman. Maybe Moser. There’s no way we even consider Sampson or Pitino.
  3. I’m not opposed to Ivey. But there is no way that hiring a guy with no head coaching experience and no college coaching experience at all is the “smarter play” versus a guy with proven success and deep tournament runs in the same conference.
  4. Umm...there were people around during the last ice age.
  5. Isn’t he actually a lawyer too? I don’t know if he ever practiced, but I think he went to Vanderbilt.
  6. I’m confident I could surrender and be executed at least as well as Davy Crockett.

I think the surly 1% are actually those of us who got checks. Most everyone here is rich beyond the dreams of avarice.

Had mine since last Friday night. Meanwhile, my dad got his yesterday, and brother still hasn’t gotten the one from December, let alone this one. Seems completely random.
  9. But there's no strong argument for it, either. When the 26th amendment was passed, the primary push was due to the draft - if you're old enough to fight, you're old enough to vote. That's logical. There's no connection to anything like that with 16 year olds. They're "organizing and mobilizing." Ok? What about those kids younger than 16 who are doing the same? What about the vast majority of 16 year olds who aren't doing that? Choosing 16 is completely arbitrary. And while you could argue that it's no more arbitrary than 18, I suppose, that has the advantage of being the age of majority in most states, as well as the age most people graduate high school (plus the voting age for most countries in the world, as you already pointed out).
  10. I don’t understand the perpetual back and forth over whether Trump or Biden is more incoherent. Anyone without partisan blinders should just be honest enough to admit they both make George W. look like Demosthenes by comparison.
  11. You’re still doing it here.
  12. Not what I was talking about, which was the whole interview with St. Peter thing. You have a bad habit of replying without reading carefully.
  13. I'm not arguing the second sentence. It's the first one. No church actually teaches that, and no one that I have ever encountered seriously believes it. It's folklore. It's a setup for jokes. It's the sort of thing a non-religious person might think a Christian believes, but they don't. Anyway, enough of a threadjack.
  14. If you were religious, you wouldn’t actually think that’s how it works.
  15. I’d like to see a link on that other than a tweet. Not because I don’t believe it, but because I’d like to be able to reference that data.
  16. Because it was. It was in the midst of a discussion about expanding the existing checks, which had some traction even with Republicans but was killed by McConnell. The whole point was that with a Democratic Senate it will be passed. To separate the promise from that context is disingenuous.
  17. Weird humblebrag.
  18. America the Beautiful is essentially a prayer if you pay attention to the lyrics. I imagine many would find that offensive.
  19. You’ve got the wrong war with Britain in mind.
  20. I’d like another one. This is very unsurly of me, but I haven’t used it since it changed because it just seems too personally mean to the poster for my tastes rather than directed at the content of the post. (Ducks for incoming negs.)

  22. “Brilliant comedy mind” is not one of them either.
