What @Ted Lange has very clearly explained twice now is that Canada's group becomes a whole lot easier when two of its opponents spend nearly half of the match down a man. That is what made Canada's group not very difficult. On paper, it should've been a tough group, but Peru and Chile made it much easier for them.
In other words, Canada ain't done shit.
This is true of people everywhere, though, including the U.S.
The key difference is, citizens in Democratic countries have access to a great deal more data and viewpoints than they do in nations in which the state strictly controls the discourse. They're also (usually) permitted to voice their dissent without repercussions.
Back in the day, we called this "tubbing."
And in informal pickup games at the park, there was always one fat dude or just some lazy SOB that resorted to this after about five minutes of play.
That only applies if the quote immediately continues with the next paragraph, and from the same source. Once the source is no longer talking or being cited, then a close quote is necessary**.
** Unless you're Cormac McCarthy, who is too pretentious for any sort of quotation marks.
Impressed with all three for actually having a somewhat civil dialog. Girls were losing points faster than they could be tallied, but at least they were listening, which is better than your average political discourse here in the States.
One year later, I hope the young man is still alive and, with luck, scored a three-way with the two lasses.
