#24 TEXAS vs. #7 TEXAS A&M (Tuesday, 3/5, 6:30pm, LHN)
I was going to say the opposite. He can't throw the FB for a strike and is relying heavily on the slider, even on 3-1 and 3-0 counts. It's flat too and we should f'n hammer it. ETA: breaking ball is tailor made for Gaspy's long-ish swing. And he's got the length to drive anything remotely close.

Flores has looked REALLY good at SS. Honestly surprised O'Dowd didn't bobble it, but even managed to turn it. 😄 Witt looks relaxed/confident and that DP really helped him out. Down 2-0, but I see a lot of good things going on.

Righties are going to have to look to take the breaking ball up the middle or opposite field and fight off fastballs as they come. Try to pull everything and this guy will eat us alive with that slider. He'll work to the fastball the next time through the lineup, but that only assumes he can throw it for strikes (he hasn't shown that yet).

Technically/statistically a HBP, but it was ball 4 and he wasn't swinging, so functionally it's the same thing.

Yeah, ball 4 hit him. Worked to a 3-2 count, then got nicked on an inside fastball that they'd say Porter Brown turned into if he was at the plate.

Witt made one bad pitch that cost him. The runner on 1st drew a walk in a pretty good AB. Witt pitched pretty well.

His stuff looks pretty good and he really didn't pitch poorly that inning. Made a bad pitch to a good hitter. If it was a GIDP, nobody would think twice about it.

Really only one bad pitch. Shake it off and burn 'em down in the 2nd.

Ouch. That looks nasty. Guess if you're gonna walk him on 3-2, you might as well go inside. He'll be off the plate next AB.

95mph fastball and his curveball is 78mph. If he can tunnel and doesn't otherwise tip it, that's significant.

Texas Women’s Basketball 2023-2024: Handing out ass whoopins and lollipops, and we’re all out of lollipops
Good to see Holle recognized. I've said it before, but she is often overlooked because her contributions are flashy/attention getting. She plays good defense and has a ton of hustle plays that don't necessarily show up on the stat sheet.

We couldn't beat them even playing 6 on 5? Mercy.

[Surly Official Firing Squad] David Pierce Has Left The Building - FIRED
Pierce will not win a natty at Texas. He'll do enough to not get fired for awhile - a Super/CWS appearance every couple of years - but he will not win a championship. He's just not the guy.

Good to see PB back in a groove. Flores has gotten a lot of attention at the plate, but he's looking pretty damn solid out there at SS too.

Talk your shit on the internet. The two of you pussies together wouldn't last 30 seconds in the flesh.

You obviously haven't read the thread for context. Point out where I did that. I get nothing out of being a dick to people on a message board. If I'm ever chippy, it's usually in response to something people would never say in person ("stupidest shit I've ever heard", "dumb fuck", etc.).

Okay, since you asked. I played multiple sports at a very high level in high school. Focused solely on baseball in college. Was successful (lead the team in hitting) until I was limited by a pretty serious medical issue. That ended any hopes of a career past college. Hard to say how that might have gone...who knows. Probably understood the finer points of the game even better than I could physically execute them. It's been awhile, so a few things may have changed, but I still know what I'm seeing when I'm watching a game. My career was in another field that was extremely demanding (far moreso than sports), both physically and mentally, and I reached the very pinnacle of that one. Reached the pinnacle of a couple other disciplines as well. I know the difference between good and great in general, and what it takes to get there. When I wasn't busy "doing", I taught people how to make the leap, so I get the coaching angle as well. That's about all I'm going to reveal on an internet message board. (I don't really care about message board cred. I just like to comment on/discuss baseball while I'm watching the game. People can think what they want and say what they want, even the stuff they'd never have the balls to say in person. I get a kick out of it, actually.)

The fact you think time on a message board is the determining factor says quite a lot. The fact you freely and openly admitted it says even more. But hey, it's a free country and this is just a message board, think what you want.

Hey look. Someone who actually understands baseball. Glad to have you in the thread.

It pisses me off to no end too, but it's true. If you actually know the game down to the smallest details, it's painfully obvious. I knew we were in trouble after the 1st inning when I saw how we were trying to pitch them and how they were approaching their at-bats. Those AB's had far less to do with LBJ and the hitter(s) than it did coaches' scouting/planning/coaching up. On the flip side, the pitch calling for Holman was brilliant and he executed the plan very well. We refused to let the ball run deep in the zone and go opposite field, so he continued to kill us with the breaking ball on the outer half. In baseball, the smallest things matter. They add up to hits/baserunners, and those add up to runs. Or you can just ignore it and get dominated like we have tonight.

2 reasons: We don't have the talent and we don't have the coaching. I don't like admitting it, but LSU has a better program than we do, top-to-bottom. There's a reason they got #7 before we did and did it in many fewer CWS appearances. They may get #8 or #9 before we get #7.

Good things happen when you go opposite field, especially when you're struggling against good pitching. Trying to pull everything hurt us in the post-season last year and I was bitching about it then. Nothing has changed. - 2024 Astros Foundation College Classic
