4 arrested at Maven Hotel, police feared a “Las Vegas style shooting” during All-Star Game
I asked this a couple years ago but everyone wanted to focus on guns instead of the mental health issues which are obviously the underlying problem. Guns just make it easier. I believe the problem is mental health, but not necessarily a diagnosed mental illness, but instead a culture which breeds mental issues. Some of these have been touched on above with respect to accountability. The primary issue with mental health deficiencies I believe is cultural and the second is true mental deficiency/illness. I think single parent/two-parent working households presents an enormous problem. We are bombarded with everything we HAVE to have and in order to have those things, one of the sacrifices is for both parents to work. In the case of single parents, there isn't an option, they are the sole breadwinner. Not only are parents not parenting and teaching kids respect and caring for others, personal responsibility, and a sense of morality, they just aren't present. They are working. And when they are there, they are more focused on themselves than on the sacrifice it takes to actually raise kids properly. I'm not immune to this, nobody is. But there are different levels and I think there is a healthy balance of taking care of oneself and the responsibility that comes with raising kids. But the US leads the world in consumerism and image by a large margin and I think that has created a culture of judging people by what they have and not who they are/what type of person they are. This lack of parenting also leads to the lack of accountability issues others have talked about because either consciously or subconsciously, the parents realize they are absent to some degree and don't want to risk further alienating their kids, so they always side with them, never punish, always reinforce that the kid is right. This isn't parenting. Secondly is social media. Too many people in this world (and especially this country) are focused on "me" instead of "us". Everyone can be a star or the perfect family or live the perfect life on Facebook/Insta/TikTok and these outlets create a false sense of reality for people who see themselves as NOT having the same stuff/life/experience/happiness as everyone they see on social media. It breeds discontent and depression and a sense of loneliness and lack of caring for others. The only way to reach out and develop relationships is online with other people who have similar experiences and harbor the same feelings and it spirals downward from there. We see this clearly with Politics - people's world view shrinks because they are force fed more content that supports their world view and demonizes any other viewpoints. Again, this is rooted in the rampant consumerism and the need to HAVE things and be LIKED which is fostered by our material/marketing culture more in the US than anywhere else in the world. Third is true mental illness. Some people just have their wires crossed and should be treated but are not. That's an entirely different conversation, but it is something that needs to be addressed. For those who don't have a moral compass to help guide them, (from not being raised to have this moral compass) they lose a sense of right/wrong and instead focus on the unfairness of the Haves/Have Nots they see playing out on their Twitter/Insta accounts. They eventually depersonalize the Haves and feel justified in killing these people. My $0.02.

COVID-19 2nd wave - Texas only - Stats and such
My boss and his wife both tested positive yesterday. They were vaccinated. Her condition is currently very serious and she is on her way to the hospital. I don't know if it is the Delta variant or not, but would guess so. She is high-risk with some other immuno-diseases, so I'm sure that is playing a part in the severity. My boss says he feels tired like he has a cold but is otherwise ok.

They've popped up on Spotify several times and I've been digging it. Funny video. Interesting product placement with the wireless Beats headphones.

I think there's a middle ground here. My IWC Spitfire was my every day watch for a couple years and its got the dings and nicks to prove it. A watch that gets worn every day is going to show wear and tear. Do I wish it was perfect, sure, but I also want to wear the watches I but and that's part of the cost of ownership. That said, if I know I'm going to the beach or doing some repair work around the house, I'd switch to something cheaper. No reason to take the additional risk. Feel the same with my Speedmaster now. It gets worn most days but I'll switch it out for something else depending on what's going on. His IWC isn't a beater, but it is an every day watch that's going to get some bumps and bruises. Sounds like he's ok with that.

Golf Clash
Damn lurch, nice! I really like the new clan. Some incredible players. Annexing what 8 or 10 Master tournament players can do. Can't wait to get my little accountsup to Apoc 6 so I can play all my accounts in Master. To tough to split among different tournament levels. Kirsty not enough time to really dial in.

This whole course looks like a poorly kept muni. Maybe it has some nice ocean views, but it's ugly.

Thinking about this watch gift, you probably need to have an idea of what he has and what he likes/wants/needs. Maybe he already has a few divers and doesn't really need another but would really appreciate a Pilots watch (Archimedes/Laco). Or maybe divers are all he wears. Maybe he needs a good every day watch for the office because he only has G-shocks and he's going into the business world. I'd try to pick his brain a little and get some insight into his watch interests. Also consider size. If he's small, you may want to stay around 40mm or less. If he's larger, something 38mm may be too small and you may want to look at 40mm+ or larger. My personal recommendation is an original Seiko Cocktail time. Its a little dressy, but a fun, stylish watch. Almost everyone likes it, and its niche enough that you won't be guessing diver vs everyday vs pilot vs field vs dress vs.... It's just a fun watch to throw on for dinner/drinks. Probably around $350-500 online. 40mm so fits most wrists. The strap on it sucks, so I'd suggest getting a third party strap or maybe a mesh bracelet for it. Can probably find something nice for $50 or less.

Check out Zelos and Halios for microbrands. Some really nice looking watches. The Zelos Horizon 43mm has a great dial. Have to find one because they are sold out. Hamilton is always a good choice. Tissot and Christopher Ward are also good brands that have solid watches in that price range. For quite a bit less, a Casioak would be cool. Seiko SRPD009 or a Seiko Cocktail Time. Seiko had some really good watches for inexpensive that have a lot of hard-core followings.

TURV also making a bit of a run today. I can't recall if there was an exit point discussed or not. Is the strategy to get on free shares and let the rest ride?

Yeah, I don't like the 2 door much at all. And it wouldn't work with the family/pet situation. I definitely want to see them in person before making any decision. Don't like that Maverick.

Interesting, I wouldn't be looking at buying until the beginning of next year, but sounds like they are way behind on fulfilling orders. Definitely want the full size and really like the Badlands.
