It’s not freaking out to acknowledge that this team is significantly worse than last year.

‘15-‘16 I guess were the only years both were good while in the same division.

He was basically Reggie Bush without a Heisman QB or being surrounded by an entire offense made up of NFL players.- 2023 Houston Astros Thread
Man, I just don’t see 100 wins with this roster, or really anything close to it. This has all the makings of a wild card team at best. The lineup lacks depth. The rotation lacks depth. Bullpens are unreliable. Its not a bad team; it’s just not that good either.- 2023 Houston Astros Thread

Right. I just don’t hate the rangers. I liked them as a kid when the AL and NL were distinct (I wish they still were). They’d occasionally be on HSE in Houston. Usually we’d got to a game or two in Arlington each summer to see AL teams that never came through Houston.- 2023 Houston Astros Thread
I’m good. My rants last week weren’t about the ability of Yordan, Altuve, Tucker, Abreu or Bregman to produce when they’re healthy - there’s no reason to think they won’t. My rants were about the rest of the roster and how the front office actively chose not to address weaknesses.- 2023 Houston Astros Thread
Bregman will be fine; Altuve will hit when his thumb is ready. And you totally forgot about Abreu. I agree that the lineup isn’t quite what it’s been because of the injuries; but it will still be good when at full strength.- 2023 Houston Astros Thread
Oh yeah…not saying we should have given him the contract the Mets did, just that last years club was better positioned to “flip the switch” than this year’s is.- 2023 Houston Astros Thread
We also had Altuve and Verlander.- 2023 Houston Astros Thread
I mean, look at todays lineup. That’s about as mediocre as it gets.- 2023 Houston Astros Thread
I still think he should lead off. He has a .374 OBP for his career. He gets on base more consistently than anyone other than Yordan (who I’d have batting second), first 3 games notwithstanding. But lineups have been fine so far, Pena is fine at 1 until Altuve gets back; though I agree with others about Chas…not sure why he isn’t starting in CF 3 out of every 4 games. He’s a good player. And to your point, I’d be fine if you wanted to flip-flop he and Pena in the order.- 2023 Houston Astros Thread
Holy shit, he/the Astros have completely broken them.- 2023 Houston Astros Thread
Not nearly enough obscene hand/finger gestures in this photo.- 2023 Houston Astros Thread
Fuck that goddamn cunt Joe Kelly.- 2023 Houston Astros Thread
Yordan career wRC+: vs Righties - 165 vs Lefties - 164 Teams have to know this, yet they still go out of their way to get the L-L matchup. It’s fascinating.- 2023 Houston Astros Thread
I’m not much of a betting man. And if I were to bet, I’d bet the probabilities, which probably would still put them a little over 90. Currently I’d take the under on 95 though (that’s their lowest total since 2017, bullshit Covid year excluded).- 2023 Houston Astros Thread
Gonna have to ask you to show your work here…- 2023 Houston Astros Thread
I’m really not losing my shit; just expressing frustration with the off-season negligence (though I tried to remain optimistic) that has led to a team that is probably heading for 85-90 wins. But, point taken, I’m being a bit of a beating here, I’m not here to ruin yalls good time, so I’ll shut the fuck up with the critical things.- 2023 Houston Astros Thread
I did. And we’re essentially down an MVP-caliber player and a CY-caliber starter from that team. Yes Abreu is an upgrade over Yuli, but not nearly enough of one to overcome replacing Altuve and Brantley with Dubon and Diaz. It’s almost certainly a worse team than last year.- 2023 Houston Astros Thread
Glad he’s pain-free while [checks notes] playing catch, but that doesn’t give me a lot of confidence in his ability to make a meaningful difference this year.- 2023 Houston Astros Thread
LMJ has never been dependable when it comes to consistently making his starts. He’s very good when he plays, he just doesn’t play often. He’s made more than 22 starts (about 2/3 of a season) one time in 7 years. Anything he provides in 2023 will be a bonus. Urquidy is above-average? I like him, but he was as average as it gets last year (98 ERA+). Brown has started 2 MLB games. I am excited about his potential, certainly, but he’s more likely to be just-ok than to be good this year. (And that would be fine, you can’t expect rookies to light the world on fire…that’s the point.)- 2023 Houston Astros Thread
Yes, but it didn’t even have to be those guys. I’d much rather have retained Diaz than Dubon in a utility role. Why didn’t we have interest in Profar, who could be plugged in at 2B right now with his .330-ish OBP? Most of all, if you want to punt on offense at C, you can’t also do it at DH and CF. We basically made the decision to fucking skip the off-season by not having a GM; that has consequences. Maybe I’m too gloomy; I just see an offense with one great hitter, 3 good ones, and then a bunch of hot garbage. I see a rotation with 2 really good starters, a decent one, an average one, and a totally unproven one. And bullpens are schizo. I dunno, take the names away and that sounds like a solid WC team to me.- 2023 Houston Astros Thread
Don’t know what that is and am hesitant to google it. Probably, that sounds like me. Though I think my expectation was a couple of months (not necessarily the first couple though). - Left Behind: A Quick Dose Of Post Big 12 Reality
