  1. She hasn't been shot three times in the face at point blank range in her car. Yet.
  2. Definitely. I mentioned on another thread after we got back from Asheville that it was near the top of our retirement fantasy list if we could ever leave Texas.
  3. The Ashville airport is okay, but pretty small. My wife and I spent a long weekend there in 2024 (love it and want to go back), and the travel day was not bad. Austin to Charlotte to Ashville. I just don't remember the costs of the tickets, and it could very well be that flying out of Charlotte is a better deal.
  4. I know. The pair of lions would've eaten most of the other animals, and probably Noah's family.
  5. Yeah, I mentioned this upthread as one of the hidden costs of going to school far away, especially if your kid's college isn't reasonably close to a major airport. Fortunately Eugene has a pretty good airport with a SWA one-stop flight to and from Austin. And my daughter and her friends split the cost of a storage unit to leave all their shit when they break for the summer.
  6. But I'm a U.S. citizen!!!!!!!!
  7. That's how you Donroe it.
  8. Rock salt. Lots and lots of rock salt.
  9. Plus you get to experience that whole "Yale thing."
  10. Yes, but only one I would have called a "friend," since before Trump I really didn't have any right-wingers in my friend group. This guy's daughter and my daughter were in school together and close friends from first grade through senior year, so over the years we spent a lot of time together, at school stuff and in social settings outside of school. He was an Alex P. Keaton/Ronald Reagan kid of the 1980s who was always Mr. Republican, and he even abstained from voting for Trump in 2016, so I thought he'd be a more principled Republican and keep away from team MAGA. Also, a really smart and well-read guy. But for some reason, the Biden presidency and the thought of Kamala Harris becoming president completely broke his brain, and he's now a full on unapologetic Trumper, ramping up his pro-Trump posts on Facebook like never before. He also attended my Episcopal Church for a few years before he decided the church was becoming too woke for him. I don't care to have anything to do with him anymore. The last time I actually saw him was a few weeks before the pandemic hit in March 2020, and I no longer respond to his Facebook posts, not even the non-political ones about his family. But I haven't de-friended him because I still feel the need to see what people like him in this country think and post. He really thinks we're back to a golden age in America right now, with the economy (i.e., the stock market) humming along, and the end to DEI/wokeness that has been rotting America, completely ignoring the ever-mounting evidence that our President is one of the worst human beings to ever occupy the position. As I've mentioned on other threads, my dad is full MAGA, even with my mom turning hard left after the G.W. Bush years. But he's learned to keep his mouth shut about politics during family gatherings, and I give him grace because . . . well, he's my dad, and he's almost 82 and we see the end of the road approaching for him.
  11. What was Trump's cut?
  12. Anecdotally, a couple years ago I was talking to a guy who's a dean of one of colleges at UT, and he said that with the current ultra-competitiveness for admission, his position won't do jack shit to move the needle for his kids, and they'll have to get in solely on their own merit.
  13. The Bellamy Brothers is Connor Stroh's favorite band of all time.
  14. I forgot which comedian said it, but he sounds like a man whose throat is trying to prevent him from speaking.
  15. In all fairness, everyone looks like shit at Nebraska these days.
  16. No fucking way. That's a Graham Harmon sock.
  17. Exactly. If the car "hit" him in any way that presented the slightest threat to that jackass's safety, he wouldn't not have been able to so quickly fire off three point blank shots standing straight up. None of MAGA is physically or mentally capable of seeing that, though.
  18. Bravo for the Trading Places reference. I needed the chuckle.
  19. This was my experience. I submitted the form for my daughter because I thought it was a hard and fast requirement, and that her school might not distribute her merit-based aid without it. But I haven't submitted the form in subsequent years and her scholarships are still funding, so whatever.
