  1. Rather than focusing on kids driving golf carts, I'd prefer the police target the tech bros and finance bros cosplaying F1 on Loop 360 every Sunday morning. I pray one of them will wrap that sweet little $250K Lambo around a Pennybacker Bridge pillar, but so far no luck.
  2. Once Rick Bayless sold the brand to Big Farma quality went to hell across the board.

Damn, Bruce. Well done. Classic 60's protest folk. Fuck ICE and fuck anyone who supports this shit.
  4. That first color is amazing, although not what I think of as "Pelham Blue". I imagine it has reacted to light over the years. The second guitar, that's more my wheelhouse with the two pickups. The blue one, though, damn.
  5. We accomplished an amazing amount of stupid shit growing up in rural Missouri. Worst injury I got was a giant bruise on my thigh after my sled got squirrely on iced over sleet and I ran sideways into a croquet wicket we had used to mark a slalom run. I did slide under a parked truck once, though. Made it out the other side. Lifted redneck 4WD for the win I guess. The "walking on iced over ponds" part is where we drew the line, but maybe Texas kids just don't understand how long it takes for that ice to become thick. What a terrible way to go. Oh yeah, to repeat the PSA from a day or two ago: Austin has slipped the trash/recycling/compost collection schedule by a day.
  6. This is not news, but string change frequency is a huge function of a few variables, mostly "how much do you play?" and "how much do you sweat?". I don't sweat. Like, none. I can go a couple of years between string changes with reasonable use (say, 10 hrs per week) and not notice the change. My college roommate? Dude could ruin a set of strings in one night.
  7. I just asked her to stop by my friend's house to get some extra firewood. "Just park behind the Rivian." Good luck.
  8. My stepdaughter, who has the common sense of a hamster, spun out this morning in my damn 4Runner, which I had to give her when she wrecked her Camry -- twice -- the second being the coup de grace. Fortunately she didn't hit anything this time. I TOLD her "go slow, and don't brake hard, just let off the gas if you think you're sliding and then slowly brake". What did she do? In her words "well, the people in front of me seemed to be going around the corrner OK so I just followed and then I don't know what happened". Lawdogs: can I get a restraining order?
  9. You talking to yourself?
  10. Solution: two half-pots, one amped up, one not.
  11. It's Great Hills back behind the Arboretum, right?
  12. @TwiceHorn You need to wait until the complete thaw for final judgment, but it sounds like you're OK.
  13. Well shit! I saw a guy trying to power up your hill about an hour ago, looked dicey. I heard no collisions. It's worse now than it was this morning, at least on untraveled paths (my sidewalk & driveway). I imagine the afternoon sun caused slight melting and it refroze into an ice rink as opposed to slightly pebbly sleet. I bit it in my YARD. Kinda caught myself in a Ned Beatty pose, but no way am I walking on my driveway. I'm in for the night, if the hose bibs freeze, they freeze. Been good dripping so far (~ 36 hours).
  14. Yeah, you're probably right.
  15. That's a classic move, give it a try.
  16. I think it's more reasonable to snowboard at that speed than drive the lead car at that speed, given the conditions.
  17. I'm seeing a forecast of a sunny afternoon with a high of 36 F?
  18. Is "9" the number if we include those ratings created by Sagarin, etc.?
  19. After I had made 3 grocery runs in the last 3 days, last night the family says "hey, why don't you whip up a batch of chili?" A little warning would have been nice. So, I decided to test myself and did a pantry+freezer pull. Ground chuck, some frozen HE B diced onions, frozen garlic cubes, HEB's "Southern Style Spices New Mexico Chili Powder" (bulk), tomato sauce (yes, I like tomatoes in my chili), cumin, cayenne, salt. I didn't know much about the chili powder so I snuck up on the final levels of it and the salt, cumin & cayenne. It took some tweaking but the final product was damn good. Here it is halfway thru the cook, it's still a little soupy at this point:
  20. Seems like the Austin area got more precip than expected but it tended toward sleet as opposed to freezing rain, which is a good thing. Sleet doesn't stick to power lines, branches, etc.
  21. Well, almost made it to 7:30 CST before our power went out. 1000+ Austin Energy customers. Just came back on, so yay?
  22. Just used my Thermapen to get a 29.7 F reading in west Austin (360/2222). Seems like the freezing temperatures got here earlier than expected.
  23. I have the makings for a nice pot of Texas Red on order for tomorrow at HEB (if open). We have a shit ton of other power outage proofed stuff, though, from bread and lunchmeat and cheese and eggs (on the porch you go) to pantry staples like pasta sauce etc. We have a shit ton of firewood, so I'm locked and loaded.
