  1. Nebraska is an interesting team thus far. Record is 6-4 with: Wins over #21 Washington, #2 Texas, #20 LSU, #25 UCF, and #3 Texas Tech Losses to #2 Texas, #21 Washington, #11 Georgia, and #1 Tennessee. Still have #19 South Carolina, #13 A&M, #18 Oklahoma State x3 in non-con play. *current D1 Softball Rankings
  2. Texas to Host No. 1 IOL from California in March (Monday 8:40 p.m) - Gerry 2027 IOL Lincoln Mageo Sets Texas Unofficial Visit *** 2027 Oceanside (Ca.) IOL Lincoln Mageo will unofficially visit Texas on March 28, he tells On Texas Football Monday evening. Mageo, a 6-foot-4-inch, 280-pound offensive lineman projects well towards the interior at the next level. He currently holds 22 offers at the moment with the Longhorns having been in the hunt since May of 2025. Washington, Michigan, Ohio State, and plenty of others have already offered and are in the hunt as well. March 28th Visitors List Lincoln Mageo, IOL, Oceanside (Calif.) 3. This is why the current iteration won't (and past haven't) win it all. You must be able to shoot the three. Again, in terms of the three we say, "maybe next year" My pessimism on a national title aside, this is true. Still a good result.
  4. Happy Friday | Updates and Notes from Workouts (10:40 a.m.) - Vogel OTF Team Notes and Updates *** Health Notes: – QB Arch Manning remains in a boot. For those wondering if Manning will throw for the Texas Pro Day, my best bet is probably not. – WR Ryan Wingo is doing well, and continues to be on track to be back by the start of spring practice. Our @Bobby Burton posted a great note on Wingo in late January about this exact timeframe. – LT Trevor Goosby remains in a sling. – I don't have anything new on Xavier Filsaime at this time. Couple of Team Notes • TE Emaree Winston has really helped shape his body for the college game. Wiston obviously does not possess the biggest frame, but he has filled out and lost some of the baby fat he came in with. • EDGE Zina Umeozulu was one of the first names that I have heard who has looked impressive in offseason workouts. And to add to that, I have heard once more EDGE Smith Orogbo has really transformed his frame to that of a college edge rusher. • I mentioned it earlier in the week but will reiterate, WR Kohen Brown is a gym rat. These workouts and weight lifting days are right down his alley. • QB KJ Lacey is the first quarterback to throw in the organized throwing sessions. This obviously comes as a result of Arch Manning being sidelined, but Lacey is getting work with the first unit. Additionally, but MJ Morris and Dia Bell have been present in these settings as well. • LB Tyler Atkinson was mentioned as a standout. Atkinson and Markus Boswell continued to get work movement with Derrick Johnson in the offseason. • There are two main themes I have gathered from conversations this week: First, many believe there is far too much talent on the offensive side of the football to have significant scoring droughts in 2026. I mention this because Texas had four games of finding the end zone just one time in 2025, but that feels like it will be far from the case this fall. From the four portal additions at the skill positions, to the beef added up front, there is a lot of optimism for major numbers in Arch Manning's second year as the starting quarterback. Additionally, – and I won't harp on this too much after posting about it last week – the expected leaders in the locker room have begun separating themselves from the pack. Among those active in workouts, Colin Simmons, Jelani McDonald, Alex January and Connor Robertson were singled out. NIL Updates • WR Cam Coleman recently appeared in a commercial with Crocs. • New RT Melvin Siani also had a shoot with Lucchese. Talk about a true Texan welcome. • LB TyAnthony Smith inked a deal with Raising Cane's. Update Jersey Number List For the early enrollees: 5 – Derrek Cooper 6 – Dia Bell 11 – Smoke Matthews 13 – Kohen Brown 16 – Tyler Atkinson 21 – Hayward Howard Jr. 25 – Toray Davis 52 – James Johnson 88 – Charlie Jilek 94 – Jamarion Carlton 99 – Richard Wesley For transfers: 0 – Raleek Brown 2 – Hollywood Smothers 8 – Cam Coleman 44 – Markus Boswell 79 – Jonte Newman Number changes Kade Phillips goes from No. 11 to No. 8 KJ Lacey goes from No. 8 to No. 9
  5. Regents set to approve Will Muschamp's contract, extensions for Kyle Flood and Johnny Nansen - OTF The University of Texas System Board of Regents is set to approve a three-year, multi-million contract for Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp at next Thursday’s regents meeting. The regents are also set to approve contract extensions for offensive line coach Kyle Flood and linebackers coach Johnny Nansen. According to the agenda book for the regularly scheduled meeting, Muschamp’s contract with the Longhorns will run through the 2028 season, if approved by the regents. Muschamp’s guaranteed salary is split between his annual salary for three years ($1.08 million for the first year) and three professional services payments ($1.62 million in the first year). All told, Muschamp is due to make $2.7 million in the first year of his deal, $2.8 million in the second year and $2.9 million in the third year. Annual Salary Dec. 19, 2025 through Dec. 31, 2026: $1.08 million Jan. 1, 2027 through Dec. 31, 2027: $1.12 million Jan. 1, 2028 through Feb. 28, 2029: $1.16 million Professional Services Payments Dec. 19, 2025 through Dec. 31, 2026: $1.62 million Jan. 1, 2027 through Dec. 31, 2027: $1.68 million Jan. 1, 2028 through Feb. 28, 2029: $1.74 million Muschamp’s contract also includes an automobile, a club membership and tickets to Texas sporting events, all of which are “pursuant to Athletics Department’s policies and procedures,” according to the pending employee agreement. Flood, whose current contract was set to expire after the 2026 season, will remain on the Forty Acres through the 2027 season. Flood’s annual salary will be $1.525 million, with his new deal set to expire on Feb. 29, 2028. Nansen’s new deal will also run through the 2027 season, with a raise to $1.2 million annually.
  6. That’s obvious. So, please refrain from inserting your dumb, uniformed opinion. At one point, early in the 3rd, Texas was down 61-35. We played like old, white dog shit. Routinely made stupid mistakes on defense, lacked aggressiveness on offense, were out-rebounded, and only made 38% from the field. Every time Texas would close the gap a little, Vanderbilt would emphatically shut the door. Concurrently, Vanderbilt is an awesome offensive team. They schooled Texas.
  7. Like Vanderbilt’s coach. She’s not super young, but she’s 47 and coached under Geno at UConn for like 13 years.
  8. I love Vic, and Vandy is a really good team, but Texas can’t trade twos against threes forever; especially against teams that shoot so well from three. He must get more shooters and better/more consistent offensive production in the program if we ever want a legit shot at winning a title.
  9. Glad you called it out. I was wondering the same thing when I looked at the week ahead this past Sunday. Makes no sense.
  10. That’s an interesting amalgamation right there.
  11. Not an easy read due to the digital format, but thought I would post it anyways: LEARFIELD Digital PublicationsTexas Baseball Season Guide 2026Author: LEARFIELD Digital Publications, Catalog: Texas Baseball Season Guide 2026 Published: Jan 29, 2026
  12. Hey, at least they're saying need #1 is what we've been repeating since last season. I hope Texas has a real point guard next season.
  13. Texas mid-week hoops report: NBA and Swain; portal needs - Gerry The Texas Longhorns have a week of some rest for the legs, while still practicing prior to game prep late in the week ahead of the trip to Missouri. Member of the staff have also been on the road evaluating prospects in multiple classes with a focus on 2027. NBA and Dailyn Swain ... There have been plenty of NBA scouts through Austin this season, and in attendance at Texas games. The word OTF received Tuesday is the NBA scouts keep ascending the 6-8 junior wing/guard higher and higher on boards. There is a thought currently around the program that Swain is at least 50-50 to be a first round pick if he finishes off the season anywhere similar to his SEC performance thus far. OTF believes if Swain is a first round, he will likely go. As one would, and should, expect. While he could elevate to the top half of the 2027 draft most likely and Texas could be competitive in a one year NIL scenario, the dream of guys is to be a first round pick and play in the NBA. Portal needs ... OTF believes there will be multiple portal additions to the program. And unlike last year when Sean Miller was hired March 24 (the day the portal opened) and was in program/roster assessment and staff building mode, the staff has had months to get prepared and plan for the needs with more time and preparation. The portal window of April 7-21 has been backed up this year. Need 1: While Austin Goosby will play a CG role for Texas, the Longhorns will be after another team runner/CG with experience. Texas will likely hunt a little more size at that spot this off season. Multiple CG's with a team runner is a point of emphasis. Sean Miller talked about how PG's have changed, the game has changed and you get a feel for his thoughts here from media availability Tuesday: https://watch.longhornnetwork.com/video/918323 Need two: Texas will also be in search of a four man that can effectively play facing the basket out to 22-23 feet. Need three: An off ball guard with shooting ability. Need four: OTF believes a back up big man will be signed as well, and added shot changing/blocking is a need to add a dimension in 2026-27. Possible Need five: Role playing off ball guard is another potential portal need. Possible need six: Experienced depth in the front court. 14. Recruiting Nuggets on Future Visits - OTF *** Six 2027 prospects have made their official visit plans public in regards to seeing the Texas Longhorns this summer. The Longhorns hosted 44 official visitors by my count last summer, and the number in 2026 could certainly creep into the 50's. But altogether, there is at the very least a solid start for what's to come over the next handful of months. – One Prospect to keep an eye on is 2027 Richardson OT Jasper Ngokwere. The 6-foot-6-inch, 290-pound offensive tackle prospect received his Texas offer within the first hour of being on campus at the Texas Junior Day back on January 17. Not even a week later, Kyle Flood and Steve Sarkisian stopped by Richardson High on January 22nd to see Ngokwere in person as well. Nogkwere tells OTF that Texas is "highly likely" to receive an official visit this summer. At the moment, no officials are planned as of now. But the Longhorns are a school of interest. *** 2027 Buford (Ga.) LB Hoping to Visit Buford (Ga.) linebacker Joshua Echols tells OTF that he plans to visit campus this spring as well. Echols, a 6-foot, 210-pound linebacker, holds 17 offers at the moment, though is currently unranked by the recruiting services. LaAllen Clark and Kenny Baker stopped by Buford in January where the two extended the Texas offer to Echols in late January. 2027 Hueytown (Ala.) DL Plans to Visit Texas Additionally, 2027 DL Donivan Moore also has plans to visit Texas in the March. Moore recently dropped a top six which included the Longhorns, as well as LSU, Alabama, Ole Miss, Ohio State and Auburn. At the moment, Auburn is perceived to be the favorite for the national top-75 prospect in the 2027 class. However, the Kenny Baker and the Texas staff will get a crack at hosting Moore when the dead period concludes.
