In our remodel, we ran water lines to our kitchen sink which is on a back wall over an exposed deck. About 12 feet of water line with cold air underneath. Both hot and cold water lines froze last year. So, in the off season, had my handyman install heat tape on them. I plugged them in yesterday, so they could do their work. It worked….kinda. The one installed on our hot water line is great. The thermostat is exposed to cold air, so it turned on and is doing work. But the one on our cold line…our guy inadvertently installed it too far into the house, I think. The thermostat is in the house and insulated, so it isn’t cold enough to turn on the heat tape. It’s PEX pipe, so should be ok, but it’s annoying not to have cold water in the kitchen. Will have to remedy that after this freeze.
