I happy to point to Wingo's flaws. His hands and route running, but you cannot watch him play and not see his upside. He would be scary, if he ever learned to play WR. He would get picked up immediately in the portal and paid.
Contact balance has been an issue for the Texas RB room for 2 years. Baxter had some moments as a freshman, but they were few and far between. Biggest issue for Baxter was the ability to stay healthy. He went out with a slight injury in his first game and it was not the only game. Felt like he was never a 100%. It could just be bad luck, but it is hard to put faith in a RB that has trouble staying healthy. I hope for him it was just a case a bad luck and he can stay healthy and fulfill his potential at another school.
I tend to agree with this idea, but I think this is about ROC and wins above replacement. Fans tend to think the back-ups will come in the next year and be better than the outgoing starters. It is a classic fan mistake. It is bit different in this portal world. There are positions that are a premium and hard to replace (LT/DT/Edge). RB tends to be one of the easiest positions to find quality. For $1 million you should be able to find two quality RBs. There are always risks, but finding quality RBs and WRs in the portal is not like trying to solve Fermat's last theorem.
Just look at the top SEC rushers this year.
1. Ahmad Hardy- transfer from Louisiana-Monroe
2. Kewan Lacy- transfer from Mizzu
3. Baugh
4. Mike Washington- transfer New Mexico State
5. Desean Bishop
6. Cobb
7. Pavia- transfer
8. Wisner
9. Frazier
10. Seth McGowan- tranfer New Mexico State
You also have Fluff Bothwell #12. transfer South Alabama
There is lot of good RBs that come available. I am probably in the minority, but I am not someone that wants to see Texas in a bidding war for Baugh.
This bowl is going to be interesting. Clark and Simon are going to have their job interviews.
We may see a target in Jordan Marshall from Michigan. I would love to see him in a Texas uniform next year. 85.5 PFF grade. No idea if he is looking around, but I would check the tires there.
This was his first year on campus. No idea what you are talking about with the redshirting twice.

just because you are on Surly, doesnt mean you need to be a surly prick.
you did not look too deeply. He played 3 games and had 29 carries for 122 yards (4.21 per 2nd to only Wisner among RBs). I assume the 3 games was to keep his redshirt.
Led the team in yards vs UTEP/ 17 carries 67 yards. I believe it was reported that he had something like 70 yards after contact in that game. Lot of fans wanted to see him get a chance vs legit competition, but that staff thought differently.
The fact that a RB with 3 seasons under his belt is hitting the portal and not the draft, is a clear sign that it is not a disaster. Good player and I would love to have him back, but this is not a disaster.
Just wonder if Muschamp will make some changes. Heard Gideon mentioned at one pt (sounds like dead). Travaris Robinson and Muschamp are very tight. There is speculation he may join the staff. Anyone heard anything about the defensive staff recently?
I think at DT only Sharma would be considered a pure NG, if anything Texas is light in that area. I think Muschamp was actually a bit more aggressive than Kirby in his defenses, but that was quite a while ago. That tree asks more of the safeties. Read your run key and fire downhill. That should actually be in McDonald's wheelhouse. If you assume this year's version of Derek Williams was Akina related, he should also be an excellent fit. There are a lot of rules in the system, but they are clear. Muschamp did a great job in 08 with a young talented secondary. Would be nice to see that again.

I do not think there are any players that are mismatches for the system. I think Ty Anthony Smith will be a beneficiary of the move. The CBs are isolated on the outside much more frequently in the Saban system. They do pattern match more and there is more emphasis on taking away the middle of the field (you should see more inside leverage from DBs). Though it is all a bit of guess. We have not seen a true Muschamp called defense in a long time. I am sure has evolved over the years and has some tweaks to Saban/Kirby system.
I dont really try to base this on a talent midget scale, but each to their own. I was hoping for a better game. Te 10he issue is th-12 for 109 yards in the 1st half, which was good. Bengals took a quick look and adjusted. The 2nd half was 10-18 for 151, 2 ints. Passer rating went from ~102 to ~44. That was always a question with Quinn. What happens when the script runs out? Can he limit turnovers? Hopefully, he learns from this game and looks better next week. Gets another chance vs a bad defense (Tampa Bay)
funny, my post from the Muschamp thread:
Florida was the game that really aggravated me. That was terrible game plan and one that ignored what how the prior 2 teams dismantled them.
If there is a hole in PK's ability as a DC, it is his ability to coordinate the entire defense. He has been reliant on strong secondary coaches. That can add volatility to his results. There is a reason most DC come from a secondary or linebacker background.

believe that was the Marvin Lewis defenses. He coached LBs under Cowher. If I remember correctly that was heavily influenced by Dick LeBeau. Lot of zone blitzes that used deception to rush 4 and play 7 back in zone coverage. Looked aggressive but was always sound. Rex Ryan and Wink were different.
I did not like the term passive either, but I think what he was saying is that great defenses generally get pressure with 4 and not being reliant on blitzing. You can do that with great talent or through line games/zone blitzes (LeBeau)
