It has potential, but outside of McDonald there is nobody that is proven. Safety was a disaster when the 2nd string came in most of the year.
Littleton played well for freshmen, but he was not a threat to make an All-SEC team. Loved what I saw out of Phillips and Black late in the year, but hard to know how that looks next year over 12-14 games.
Extremely young next year, so any prediction about the secondary being a top unit in the SEC will come with a lot of projection. Can they all play near their ceilings next year? Sure. Is that likely? Probably not. I think Safety needs another adult in the room and at least 2 if McDonald leaves.
I get more annoyed on his deep routes. He has not learned to stack the DB and that greatly increases the difficulty of throw. I am not sure this throw is off target to the inside by much. Wingo tends to take the path of least resistance. This is just me guessing, but I believe Sark wants that route to be just inside the numbers to give the throw some room. Wingo cuts it up the sideline and then has to work back to the numbers. Wr getting pinned on the sideline on a vert route is a really difficult throw.
Texas is 14th in yards/attempt in SEC play this year (3.08 yards)
Texas was 3rd in yards/attempt in SEC play last year (4.32 yards)
That is dramatic drop off, but it is worse when you consider the QB.
Arch has 244 yards on 83 carries this year.
Quinn had -82 on 57 carries.
Texas allowed 23 this year. You could probably double that number with Quinn behind this OL
Texas gave up 37 last year.
No issue with the Wingo throw. That is designed to go there and be a 1 vs 1. Nowhere else to really go. This is more Sark asking Wingo to be a #1 Wr, which he is not currently.
Moore has to catch that ball. Throwing a 10 yard out to the field side. That ball needs pace, it’s not a short throw
I think Jackson looks like he will be a star. I am not sure he will eclipse Burke's production next, but I do not think it will be a dramatic drop. Though that is the typical stupid fan opinion that every freshman will be an All-American by the time he is a sophomore. I am more worried about Safety. That is a position were knowing where to be is more important than talent. Though it is way too early to worry about anything. Have to see the portal playout first.
it is a negative to some school, but that is mostly because the schools involved in those do not get the payout. I know the SEC gives travel payments to playoff teams, but postseason payouts are pooled and distributed across the conference. To simplify it Texas will get 1/16 of the Citrus bowl payout but get 1/16 of playoff participants also. The smaller conferences do not have that luxury
There seems to always be a couple 3rd and longs (7-10 yards) a game, where he runs 4 deep routes that nobody turns their head until 12-13 yards. The OL typically gives up pressure and Arch is pretty much a dead man walking. Give me a short crosser or something that gives a receiver a chance to run for it.
Vince was not draft eligible after the 2004 season. I really do not understand how this is applicable to draftable players skipping the game. The game has changed so much that this is really just inapplicable.
The opting out question is so stupid. SEC pools post-season money. Vanderbilt has been a beneficiary of that socialist payout for years. They would definitely hear from Sankey if they attempted to opt out. They would likely see fines at a minimum. There is huge difference between being ND and being in a conference.
I get this and it is completely valid to feel that way, but nobody involved with Texas is going to write Ant Hill a 13mm contract with 6mm signing bonus if he gets hurt. If I was his father, I am telling him to sit his ass on the bench.
this is a legitimate rebuttal. Only rebuttal I would have is we have seen what the OL looks like with Flood's 1st selection, perhaps the 3rd cut might actually be good.
I am 100% on board with this. I want the guys leaving to enjoy a trip to Disney world and have some popcorn on the sideline during the game. I want to see all the players expected to contribute in 2026 on the field. I would not tell the guys leaving not to play, but I am not going to persuade them to suit up. This is basically a 2026 preseason game in my eyes.
Here is the irony of the CFP. The ACC being comically weak has exposed the format, but the Committee will likely put 2 teams that essentially have ACC schedules in the playoffs (ND, Miami).
There will always be arguments about the last team, but the arguments have much less meaning as you expand the playoffs. It was a massive deal when it was #2 vs #3 (call it 40%-50% chance to a NC vs 0%). You get to 24 and it is something like 2% vs 0%
