Back out for the evening after checking the cam and seeing one of my full targets routinely showing up in the evening. He has maybe a 2”-3” gap between his G2s and seems to be representing the bad genetics at our place. The good genes are making 2.5 year old 10s, so there’s that.
Two little 8 points finally came in, looks promising for two years out. I was hoping for a fight because the second one was rubbing trees and pawing the ground, but apparently they’re just here for breakfast.
300 blk is great for kids. Both my older boys took their first deer with a Ruger American in that chambering. My youngest shot it for the first time at 7 and didn’t think the recoil was much different than a 10/22, just louder. It will definitely put down a whitetail or pig.
More like bad strategy on not pivoting their discharge permit back to TLAP when TCEQ loosened the rules on permanent credit for up to 70% of irrigation under 210 beneficial re-use rules, but whatever. Instead they’re stuck battling Chris Harrington/City of Austin and the environmentalists in a drawn out appellate court case. As Hefeweizen mentioned it’s not really slowing down currently entitled deals which constitute thousands of paper and paper-ish lots in the corporate limits and ETJ.
The city had good folks working on most angles, but they probably underestimated how hard it was going to be to get the new plant on the ground and running while Covid drove the market to absolute frenzy.
I was born and raised there and we are headed up for two weeks at Christmas. Dudes (it’s never ladies) have been known to fall in love with the place and never return down south. Hope you have a great time up there, but Anchorage still sucks. It’s the Houston of Alaska.
Funny, but in reality I’d probably get all jittery and miss. Nothing gets that big around our hill country place. I’m holding out hope for a 12 even if that’s probably a pipe dream.
Love that setup, I have the same gun in 300 blk with a Vortex 1.5x6 on top and it’s a great little gun. I can’t believe how slick, refined and accurate they can make a $450 bolt gun these days.
Yeah, that makes it more obvious. They both have that stripe thing going on the right hock, too.
For a minutes I thought it was my red heeler who’s never been out to this ranch. It mostly threw me off because 95% of our hogs on this place are black with about 5% spotted Jersey cow style.
I feel stupid asking, but this is a pig on the left in the second pic, right? Also finally have some decent deer coming in at the new setup. No shooters yet so I’m going to try to cull that super tall/narrow 8 that I posted previously with my .460 S&W.
I had 3 last night because I hadn’t dabbled in the LBs for a while. Man, it did not hold up to Stagg Jr 16 at all. Very flat and peanuty in comparison.
Spent an hour watching this guy and my wife just shot a wide 8 from our other blind. About time to go see if it’s laying down. Also, the new iPhone 13 pro can almost take decent 115 yd pics When apple gets that figured out then I’ll be truly impressed

Lots of wheel gun and lever talk lately, I like it. Went to the range two weeks ago and shot my Grandad’s old S&W Model 28 and the new S&W 460 that my wife bought me. After warming up with some .45 Colt I let it rip with the .460 mag. Oh. My. God. It’s life changing power that you can feel into the depths of your soul. Bears in Alaska will shrink in fear. Bonus pic of my wife with the Model 28.
