  1. Some thoughts prompted by SB ad saturation: 1) The pillars of our economy right now....are shit. FFS, they are pretty much what you would expect to see in a mafia-run economic system. Gambling, vice (weight loss drugs), and scams and grifts and financial shell games (crypto and AI). Seriously, we used to make stuff, we used to devote our intellectual capital to developing actual things and ideas. Now, all of our best minds end up as either tech bros manufacturing and hawking vibes, or finance bros structuring layered transactions that add no value to anything, but move a shitload of dollars around that can be called "economic activity." We are an amoral/often close to criminal or outright criminal house of cards, economically. 2) When one of those pillars collapses/the bubble truly bursts....there's a solid chance it's a contagion that spreads to at least one other pillar. Meaning that the cascading effects are massive. 3) The American "leadership team" we have in place currently who would be in charge of saving our asses as the fire flashes over....oh my God are we FUCKED. There's no Paulson or Bernanke up there. Navarro? Lutnick? Bessent? My friends, when the shit hits the fan, we're gonna end up with shit ALL over us, with nobody to clean it up. Sweet dreams tonight!
  2. Fuck that cunt. She new plenty, she enabled this, she empowered it. MAGA is an accessory to all of this shit.
  3. Seriously. Based on these recent revelations, he should be in the mix as a future GQP presidential candidate.
  4. The grammatical structure here is a challenge. Since that was clearly shorthand... Does it refer to someone who washes their dildo religiously? Because that's probably a good idea. Is it about someone who washes dildos as a religious rite? Because in this timeline....sure, that checks out. Is it someone who washes dildos that are also religious, like a dildo shaped like Jesus? Because that would also check out. In summary, we need more information.
  5. That's correct. I love the good, more crumbly batter types (think Top Notch), but I also love a beer batter onion ring. I dig all the GOOD onion rings.
  6. Well, I mean....none so far. But if you order, it, they can shoot her 3 times in the face before 10:00 a.m. tomorrow, if you have Prime membership.
  7. We are governed by a cadre of clowns who literally believe that up is down and down is up. When you start with first principles like those, gee, no wonder it's all a clusterfuck.
  8. Also.....does Pete REALLY not understand how supply and demand works? See, the jobs report is about unemployment, and available jobs. If we are deporting labor (supply) out of the job market, then shouldn't demand (available jobs, and thus hiring for those jobs) go UP? Deporting labor shouldn't HURT the job market for people looking, it should HELP it. Right, Pete? Jesus. We are governed by people who literally think that up is down and down is up. When you start from first principles that fucking stupid, no wonder we're getting results that are SO fucking stupid.
  9. On a personal level, this is one of the most irreconcilable things about the evangelical Christian movement's heretical deification of MAGA and its leaders. I hate liars (professional hazard, but I've also always felt that way personally). And not only is lying a sin so important it merits a specific commandment, it is literally the defining badge of behavior for Satan himself (you know....the guy who is the OPPOSITE of everything that Christians purportedly stand for) (per John 8:44): You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. FFS, you could type in "Trump" instead of "the devil," and it would be spot-on. It's not just that they look past the lies, they embrace them. Lying is not incidental to MAGA (and yes, EVERYONE lies -- "no honey, your ass looks fine in those pants"), it is essential to the point of being a sacrament. They brag about it (see JD Vance admitting that the "they're eating the dogs and cats" was a lie they told purely to serve their agenda, and admitting it with a proud smile). Of course, using the banner of Christianity as a cloak for dishonesty is nothing new. Talk to any lawyer who has had a client or friend come to them with a tale of being ripped off by a shitty contractor, subcontractor, professional, etc. SO often, the tale comes with a "he seemed so trustworthy. He touts himself as a Christian businessman. There's a Jesus fish or bible verse or whatnot on the front page of his website!" The lawyers just nod. "Yeah....if you're ever looking to hire someone, and they prominently market themselves as 'christian' in any way.....run away. They are much more likely to fuck you over." Sure, it's anecdotal, but ask the lawyers you know who deal with this. We all talk to each other, it's pretty much a universal observation and cautionary tale. We know from experience that the gold medal-champs of lying are "Christian businessmen." Not businessmen who are Christian, mind you, but anyone who proclaims themselves to be a "Christian businessmen." I do business with numerous people who I know to be practicing and dedicated church members. They walk the walk. And you won't see that ANYWHERE on their marketing materials. American "Christians" are the lyingest motherfuckers around, so their bullshit about posting the Ten Commandments when they actively hate and defy one of them religiously pisses me off even more than the rest of it.
  10. I mean, one of the things I love about that is the patently, cartoonishly absurd name: "World Liberty Financial" Shades of: and This matter alone - pardoned fraudster then funneling literally BILLIONS OF FUCKING DOLLARS to the POTUS via a transparently fraudulent bullshit scheme would be the biggest scandal in presidential history standing alone. In this presidency? It's a Tuesday morning story.
  11. Someone unironically posted about Donald Trump....a man whose entire business model is "fucking over every counterparty and contractor at every possible turn"....."I didn't know he would screw us like this." FFS, it's not just what DJT does, it's the essence of his very being. To not know that DJT was going to screw anyone and everyone doing business with him is on par with not knowing that an object will fall when dropped. It's a law as immutable as gravity itself.
  12. Saw a bit of this last night. The only conclusion I could make with any certainty: those two chicks who are "true crime" podcasters whose "investigations" consist of "scouring every corner of the internet, and all the emails I get," are no good, horrible, very bad for humanity, society, and everything.
  13. To be fair.....that's exactly the kind of primary use for AI that I could see myself coming up with....so, you know, people in glass houses.
  14. Well, got a lengthy text today. Good friend of ours, we see them from time-to-time for dinners and such, they were at our house on Saturday night as party guests. Jewish family, from the Chicago area. Typical urban professional folks -- no history with firearms. Long message, lots of discussion, but I'll share the "action item" with this crew: _____________ I have a matter to discuss. I suppose it is quite a serious one - and one that happens with almost 14 years of being a Texan under your belt; and of course the sad state of affairs in our country which is literally and dramatically changing the life arcs of so many; especially those with more melanin in their skin than others. There is a “Fuck Ice” graffiti tag on a wall in our hood . Couldn’t be more proud of that. As a Jewish man, I am less optimistic than ever (my perspective through a lens of just off the rails antisemitism). As Jews we tend to inundate ourselves with incidents of antisemitism around the country (well - the world) and it has gotten really bad. It is not a left or right thing. It’s a steady current throughout society and government, and quite alarming. In my life I never expected to experience this. . . . . The Robert Kraft sponsored antisemitism commercials last night got me thinking that I honestly there is no one who will swoop in and put a blue post-it on me if there’s a “situation.” Like I said, it is very clear our home is a Jewish one and I don’t plan to change that. So here it is. Would you be willing to teach me to shoot? I think that will be easier and faster to learn than Krav Maga given the state of my back and shoulder. Let me know what you think. Or - if you don’t have time (I get it), maybe you can recommend a good place in town to get learned up a good bit? Once I learn, I plan to own a hand gun. There it is. ______________ That's the world we live in, folks. That's Trump's America. And yeah, I'll be taking him out to the range, showing him the basics, and talking to him about the best choices for him and where he thinks he'd need to have it. But fucking hell.
  15. Counterpoint: he loved to have sex and smuggled his wife outta town in a pickle barrel. That's gotta count for SOMETHING.
  16. And remember…this is important…there are a shitload of people ENRAGED by that message. Including the walking mucus-encased turd who is president. Cool. Stand on the other side of that message, you pieces of shit. Perfect.
  17. Had a couple of thoughts, including some of note for @Patricio Swayze - to whom I grant much respect for his take, and disdain for modern American Christianity. First, on scripture and innerancy....bitches please. The "Bible" is based on a collection of texts found over centuries, written in multiple languages with translation challenges, questionable authorship, etc. Hell, even if you make ALL good assumptions about them, they are chronicles of events, beliefs, and thoughts. ALL chronicles get skewed - whether they be of WWII, your date last Saturday night, how Jello was invented, whatever - because that's what running anything through the human brain does. My wife's most beloved professor at seminary regularly followed up their many discussions of scripture, what it meant, its context, etc., with "but we can't really know." That's really, really important, it's true, and it completely defeats any concept of "innerancy." As to whether "good Christians" are doing anything in response to the evangelical evil, they ARE. Shit, see the Catholic nuns on the border, who have quietly and defiantly acted according to their faith and provided aid to all. See the 100 clergy members, mostly of mainstream denominations, who willingly got arrested in Minneapolis protesting what the regime is doing. See the numerous members of the clergy who have been beaten and shot with pepper balls in the past months as they publicly bear witness against evil. And I can tell you that many are calling on their congregations not just to think, but to act. And many are acting. Many of the people in Minneapolis protesting and monitoring ICE are organized members of congregations, putting their faith into practice. In a way, Christians are like Americans. There are some who believe in the stated ideals, and who try to live those out, and hold their country to those standards. There are others who use the country as a weapon, preaching only part of what it stands for and ignoring the core values and rights underneath. Not excusing any of the bad actors. And hell, this isn't a full-throated defense of American Christianity. Just noting that it's not all evangelical evil bastards and milquetoast "other Christians" not doing anything about it.
  18. Shit, we just put out my wife’s lemon tree (had been inside to protect from the freezes). It’s in full bloom. Before the day was out, it was covered up in honeybees, carpenter bees, red wasps, and gulf fritillary butterflies. Watching them work just made us smile. And man…you can talk about your garden with ANYONE. Good on ya, @Patricio Swayze . You get it. That’s what we’re supposed to be. It’s the America I (naively) thought we were when I was a child. As I got older, it’s the America I still thought we could be. Today, we aren’t that. But I still believe it’s the America we SHOULD be. Can we get there? I’m a pessimist. But, I’m a defiant, angry pessimist. So I’m going to live that way just as a middle finger to all the pieces of shit who are currently our dominant culture. Fuck them up the ass with a bald eagle talon-spiked Louisville slugger.
  19. Man, we kinda half-assed it. We did the guided walking tour starting at Boston Common, and that was really worth it. But Bunker Hill we did on our own. We were surprised by how much we liked Boston. More on topic….we had a big party at our house last night. It’s an annual thing, there are some folks we only see once a year, maybe twice. Among them is one of my oldest, “best” friends. I used the quotes because there’s been some distance between us the last few years. I never confirmed it for sure, but I was pretty confident he voted Trump (he’s always been more conservative than me; not extreme, but pretty simple and traditional guy, reasonably reliable GOP voter, although he’d take my advice and vote for Dems in judicial races). At one point last night, a group conversation touched on politics, including mention of a mutual (former) who is heavily involved in GOP politics. My friend commented on him, and said “yeah, I know what he’s up to because I used to be a Republican until a couple of years ago. Not anymore.” I didn’t say a word, but it did my heart good. Was visiting with another couple, and they are definitely on the conservative side. More so than my good friend. They’re bidness republicans, he’s an aggy, she is very “traditional.” Shit, one of the last times we were together, we ended up at dinner with a friend of theirs, the sister of a current statewide elected republican (and dear god, was she insufferable). Last night, as we talked business and kids, the current environment, and challenges (business, trade, geopolitics) were all relevant and came up. I made a comment about how the boy is going to have a lot of work repairing our international standing and such (as that’s his career goal). She shakes her head, “it’s going to take a lifetime to fix all of this.” He nods as well, after already commenting on how the idiotic tariffs impacted his business. At every turn, they commented or gestured on how fucked up things are, and how long it’s going to take to get right. I expect that all three of these people voted Trump at least once in their past…maybe more than once. Does it give me hope? No. Hope is for suckers. But, it was good to be able to look at my friends in a different light again.
